A late entry for @kalemandra's popular "Color Challenge;" a bright yellow buttercup from the edge of our lawn. One of my better macro efforts, catching the tiny dewdrops, as well. 

Keep in mind the whole flower is only about 5/8" across!

I find myself photographing a lot of flowers in the spring, and it got me to thinking about the things we associate with different seasons.

Growing up in Denmark, Spring was always about flowers — specifically about the flowers in the woods near our house; a carpet of white wild anemones would spread across the forest floor, almost like snowflakes, before the trees even got their first leaves.

Another thing was sighting the first swallows. It always made me happy to see them dart across the sky, engaging in aerobatics as they pursued insects. In due course, they would be building their "mud houses" under the eaves of our shed.

Spring also meant "planting things." We had a huge vegetable garden, long before "growing things" and "organic" was even a thing. Even as a 7-10 year old, I found working in the garden a very joyous experience. It's one of those things that continue to be a favorite thing, all these years later.
