Let’s see. I watched The Terrifier and I don’t think I flinched as much as I did when I was seeing this movie. It wasn’t even nearly as grotesque as The Terrifier but my goodness, I had my pillow over my face most of the time. 

**Smile** is a supernatural horror movie centered on an entity that preys on the trauma of its victims, using their minds as a vehicle to drive them towards inescapable insanity before finally making them commit gruesome suicides with an eerie smile on their faces and always with a witness to pass on the curse. This movie was directed by Parker Finn and I have watched both parts. 

Now. This was totally different from the slasher movies I have seen. Even supernatural horrors like the Conjuring, IT, Dead Silence, The First Omen, The Exorcist did not scare me half as much as this. I think the main selling point of this movie was how less of the slashing was and how much the anticipation could actually get to someone. At one point, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. 

They effectively deployed the use of jump scares and in appropriate circumstances. Every time the movie progresses, so does the chill factor. It was how I never saw anything coming. It was also how the element of hope was given and then taken away.

You know the way exorcism movies always work around the demon emphasizing on the absence of God to drive fear into its victims, in this movie, it was a silent understanding that there was no God. Whatever this entity is, it is evil, visceral, and cruel. Playing with its victims like a predator would its prey. There was only one way to defeat it and unfortunately only one man in history had done it right. 

The cinematic experience was quite something. It was far removed from what I already knew. From the sound tracks to the scenes, contrasting and engaging perfectly. It had me hooked. I gave my cousin a black eye of some sort. I got so scared, jerked back enough to kiss her eye with the back of my head. 

Smile is totally different from what I’m used to. And while the suicides themselves are violently disturbing, the build up towards the end was always the cake. I watched both parts and I wonder if there’ll be a part three. I wonder if such a terrifying being could meet its end. Could it? This movie is an 8.5 out of 10 for me.
