Today, my wife and I went on a short hike up to a spot we just found out about. She saw a post from a photographer about a poppy flower field near our home that is supposed to be a pretty cool spot for pictures this time of year.

When we got there, it was super crowded with families and kids running all over the field smacking the flowers with sticks. It is sad that some parents nowadays don't pay attention to their little ones and let them do this crap.

I am not sure what type of poppy this is, or if it is the one that people collect opium from, but they look pretty crazy. In the area where we found this tiny field, there are bunches of them in that area of the canyon.

I just looked these things up on the interweb and found out that they are called Papaver orientale, and that is a type of oriental poppy. This one though does not have the stuff to create opium in them though, so I guess it is safe to go play around in this poppy field and lick everything.

You just want to be careful what you are licking, because these things look like they are from an alien planet, and before they start to bloom, they look like a set of fuzzy testicles. So just don't go putting them in your mouth, unless you are into that type of thing.
