After almost two weeks, finally I get some time to share my Splinterlands story again here on HIVE. So proudly I say this:

> Welcome to my Splinterlands [Battle Mage Secrets](https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@splinterlands/battle-mage-secrets-weekly-challenge-sg3wej) challenge.

This round we have Melee Mayhem as our main theme, a ruleset that makes all melee units can attack from anywhere in the line up. So how to exploit this one? It's not easy you know, because this ruleset focus on boosting melee units and people will try to anticipate that with some tactics.

Rather than discussing about how to exploit the ruleset, I prefer to talk about the basic that some people tend to forget when building their line up during this ruleset. The basic is simple, If you use melee focus line up, make sure that:
1. Don't do half assed here. Bring your hardest hitters!!! good or decent melee damage could backfire at yourself.
2. Because everyone will attack including this big melee guys, expect your tank to die. Use multi layer tank-able units in front.
3. Your biggest hitter should be put behind, not in front... remember no 2 above, tank and front liners will die for sure.

So let's see our battle then

Wow we had fire vs fire battle here. Anyway where this battle started from?

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/dewabrata/EoCbp5EXxqrmoN5gdMEfzgFtgHwwyawAv8Zp6eUJoAu71SsoXZhusPouz7qVPp9Quz8.png)

Melee Mayhem with an Aim True ruleset... Every hits would be landed successfully here so having Conqueror Jacek could be a massive boost for the team. However I did not have him.

With 44 mana, I would need to have 6 units team. Less units from 6 could be a big loss and locked any chance to win at all. Referring to my title above, my line up would focus on big dudes. Big dudes here were units that hit hard and hard to kill. So they were not only buffy with big health and armors, they must be able to hit hard.

So here were my top 3 biggest dudes I could get for this battle.

**FEREXIAN HERO**

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/dewabrata/23wM4W68VvVvCrbiEhMZgGAqHhcqt83UYofSurZUrasBQJNDs4g8F84Cw7yKaJaBZcXef.png)

The first pick was Ferexian Hero, he had 4 melee damage and 3 speed which were very good for the ruleset. However I picked this dude because he had weapon training ability. I needed him to make Venari Heatsmith getting melee damage attack too. Venari Heatsmith would be my secondary tank, incase my opponent came with magic focused in order to surprise me.

**FEROX DEFENDER**

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/dewabrata/23wfr3NNhxr9qRPA1vnEgLZXwJrM37zBEpzEL3Roh8MA4w4BF9X4hHeBMy3bC9eqqF6A9.png)

Ferox Defender was a hard choice for me. He did not have strong hit, however he had thick armor and health points. This was a big gamble, if my opponent came with melee and range, Ferox Defender would definitely excelled due to his protect ability.

His +2 armors to all his team mate would be decisive here. I set this card to be my big dude for defense.

**FORGOTTEN ONE**

Everyone knew Forgotten One. He was the signature, the most famous fire unit from Chaos Legion set. Too bad mine was only at 1 level, but I believed a basic 1 level Forgotten One was already dangerous. I was even sure from beginning that I would face my Opponent with Forgotten One too.

Now after everything ready, here we go!!

- The battle started with both of us buffing up our team and debuffing our opponents. My team was focusing on melee only here, we gambled everything and relied too much on our Tarsa +1 melee damage. My opponent was more of a mix all rounder line up. They had a good line up however I did not see the line up was optimized for the ruleset.
- My opponent had 13 melee damage, 4 range damage and 5 magic damage. Combined all they became 22 damage per round and this could bring disaster to any opponent they had.
- My team had 23 melee damage per round. My team had similar firepower with my opponent, both of us could obliterate any opponents.
- Compared to both, I knew I had many upperhands here. I would share later after this battle.

- First round was a complete victory for me. My team killed two of their units, The Forgotten One and Radiated Brute. 4 vs 6 at the beginning of round 2 did not look good for them.

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/dewabrata/23uFHASoY5iJCHPSUUTh2uYG7UXYTkQnBgk3B5nHTi8Tf3uXyRxufsU4ghnFvXpMXVQx5.png)

- Both of us made a killing on round 2. My team took down their Lava Launcher and They took down my Septic Slime.
- This turned to be a bad match up for them, because my Venari Heatsmith could hold up both Djinn Inferni and Djinn Apprentice magic attacks.

- Round 4 was the last one. Good game.

# CLOSURE AND DISCUSSION

My opponent came with better levels, overall they had higher level however they lost badly in this battle. There are many things we can take from this battle, however the three key points are here:
1. They did not have layered tanks. We already knew that during Melee Mayhem, your main tank definitely would die because everyone attacking him. Their team only had two good tank-able units, Forgotten One and Lava Launcher. Radiated Brute was a bad choice there. The rest of their units were soft too, not a die hard like my squad.I guess they need to update their bot next time.
2. Variation is good, it could break off from certain defensive meta however it can be easily backfired like this battle. They had variation, for example their Tenyii Striker did the sneak attacks. But in this case, the result was their firepower was divided and they could not kill my tank as fast as I killed their tank.
3. They put their biggest dude on front. This is normal during normal ruleset, but during Melee Mayhem, having big dudes behind is more beneficial because they still can keep hitting and survive longer. In my case, two of my biggest dudes which are the biggest hitters too... Forgotten One and Feroxian Hero... Both were on backline, not as the tank or secondary tank. This gave them opportunity to deliver their killing blows until the last round.

Ok how do you think about this? Any different comment or maybe you have your own feedback here. Anywaythat's all for my battle mage secret post today, see you guys again on Splinterlands battlefields!!
