Another mechanism of stopping contact with reality is retroflexion. The main manifestation of retroflexion is direction of energy on oneself. There are two forms of such interactions with the world:

- I do do with this world and with people around me what I would like to do with myself;

- I do with myself what I would like to do with the world and others.

In both cases, we do not approach the satisfaction of the need, because instead of channelling energy to satisfaction, we direct it to ourselves.
