And a new study by the Oregon State University has sought to further explore the relationship between the two. The results of which, have been published in *The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.* Specifically, it's the compound sulforaphane that is found in broccoli and other cruciferous veggies, which is often attributed to providing the beneficial results. And the study from OSU was looking to see exactly how the sulforaphane went about providing any possible benefits.
http://frontiersresearch.org/frontiers/sites/default/files/frontiers/images/3d-white-person-magnifying-glass.jpg
# Findings: ## Scientists say that the sulforaphane reduced the expression of long noncoding RNAs with regard to prostate cancer cells. Furthermore, the sulforaphane had disrupted the cells' ability to form colonies. The team witnessed at least a fourfold reduction. Previous research studies in this area have suggested that RNAs (IncRNAs) are able to regulate gene expression and they note that they are key players in the development of a myriad of cancers. They fuel the development of disease.
https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2016/03/04/09/51/broccoli-1235677_1280.jpg
## The new study by researchers at OSU further confirms the notion that IncRNAs do play a critical role as far as the development of cancer. ### And it also adds to the growing evidence, suggesting that broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables have a lot to offer in the way of disease-fighting ability. For their study, the researchers focused on analyzing prostate cancer cells, though lncRNAs have been found to be key players in the development of other illnesses; breast cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer. They are hoping that their findings might help to provide insight for treatment methods that will be able to slow down cancer or prevent it entirely. This research could open the door for new treatment strategies in the future, for possible foods or drugs that might contain high doses of effective disease-fighting compounds.
https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmaW48YhsgLS2fxaYkXCuon3tFpQEEh1tSUCU3jjJXv7RT/%40doitvoluntarily.gif

banner thanks to @son-of-satire
Pics: frontiersresearch The information that is posted above is not intended or implied to ever be used as any substitute for professional medical advice, or diagnosis or treatment.
