# You've probably seen the headlines at one point or another over the years, listing meat <b>as a potential carcinogen</b> and insisting that eating large amounts of processed meat likely causes cancer. 
<center> </center> There is a great deal of [scientific research supporting this narrative](www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21674008), it demonstrates that <b>processed meat has been linked to cancer</b>. These meats can be found to contain potentially harmful ingredients: *dextrose, nitrates, formaldehyde, and more*.

# But not grass-fed meat...
<center> </center> There are different qualities of beef and other meat options out there, such as organic, free range, and grass-fed etc. Some have wondered whether or not researchers might get different results if they sought to investigate the benefits or detriments of <b>quality meat</b>, specifically grass-fed meat and whether or not that too isn't good for you.

# New Zealand researchers are now investigating...
<center> </center> Researchers at the <b>University of Auckland's Liggins Institute</b> will be looking to answer the question of whether or not grass-fed might be any better for you and are hoping to potentially <b>reverse the conventional wisdom</b> by demonstrating that red meat could offer benefits if you opt for a quality product. 

# They've recruited a group of male participants between the ages of 35-55 to eat <b>free grass-fed meat</b> at least 3x a week for 2 months.
<center> </center> The participants have been assigned to 3 different groups: grass-fed Wagyu, grain-finished beef, or a vegetarian option. 

# The researchers will be seeking to investigate exactly how <b>*complex fats*</b> from high-quality unprocessed [meats might impact](https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/lifestyle/2019/01/kiwi-scientists-hope-to-prove-best-meat-is-good-for-you.html) <b>heart health</b>.
<center> </center> The study results, funded <b>by AgResearch</b> *and in partnership with Firstlight Foods*, are expected to be released sometime later this year.
