I recently had an amazing chat with @andrarchy about what you own beyond stake in a utility/security that has some underlying asset value. I’ve been chewing on this question for quite some time as outlined with the bet I recently made with my dad. @andrarchy had a fantastic explanation that I will be sure to reference continually as we move forward with the creation of @hardfork-series and the broader blockchain journey. I thought you all might benefit from these insights too.
 
### There Are Certain Pressures That Can’t Be Resisted ###
 
@andrarchy began by pointing out, “This is what [people] will learn in the future. The whole value of this tech is that you don’t need a contract, you don’t need to rely on someone promising to do something. That is incredibly valuable and the question is, where is capital going to flow? There are certain pressures that can’t be resisted. No there’s no legal agreement here, because we’re giving you *the thing*, we’re giving you the piece of the puzzle. Stake in the protocol itself. An integral part of a system that you want to exist in the future. Naysayers are saying, ‘I’m realistic, and I don’t think that’s gonna happen,’ and we’re saying, ‘But it can!” 
 
There are two options for the future, according to @andrarchy. “Either we’ll build a future where everyone has a stake in all of the products and services we consume… or it will be a dystopia.” Which I wholeheartedly agree with, and in fact as travel from one part of this world to another, I see how distopian the current centralized funnel system already is. Pouring money straight up to the top and eroding much of the middle class, forgetting the poor and ignoring anyone and anything that isn’t a value asset. This is where we find ourselves today.
 
### Power Structures of Today ###
 
@andrarchy added that, “The most valued corporations sell ads, even Amazon is effectively an ad service, just for its own goods. And the assumption is that these companies are going to keep growing forever based on an ad-based model.” But he then pointed out that it’s just as likely they’re going to decline, and distributed ledger technologies are going to take their place. 
 
What does that mean for his own future? @andrarchy said he’s never cashing out…he’ll use it when it’s usable.
 
### Looking At The Endgame ###
 
@andrarchy noted that the bet being made isn’t that the “price moons.” He said, “it’s that the energy and time that you’re investing into what you’re doing will eventually pay dividends. You’re building the machine.” He used me as a prime example. “You’re the director of this HardFork Series machine, let’s say a few years from now everything somehow goes to zero. People overestimate the likelihood that people are going to look at you and say ‘Remember those years you wasted playing in that futuristic world.?’ Creating the HardFork Series itself will have value. That will pay off regardless.”
 
I feel pretty strongly that he’s right about that! :)
 
“In the world we’re building you give someone money in exchange for a product or service but you receive a token in return… you don’t give your money away and it’s gone… you exchange it for stake in something else. You don’t lose the money, you convert it.” @andrarchy concluded, “It’s a built in viral component that people are only just beginning to understand but is clearly insanely powerful.”
