It's always emotionally tougher when you are younger. Life is full of promise and most young people have big dreams. That is good and as it should be.

When you get into your 30's and 40's you really begin to know who you are. It's not that you don't know who you are when you are younger, but you've had time to try lots of things on for size and some of them you keep and others you discard. You've also done at least half, probably more, of what you are ever going to do. Hopefully a few important things have gone your way!

Life is a Process with Stages: You'll Get Where You Need to Be In Time

There is a saying: "when you are 20 you care what everyone thinks, when you're 40 you stop caring what everyone thinks, when you're 55 you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place."

What has helped me most, after realizing alcohol and drungs weren't going to help was 1) psychotherapy - I tried psychiatrist prescribed medicine for two years. It was a big help in the beginning. Helped me feel better but eventually I went off of medication because I trusted myself and wanted to do things naturally.2) finding good friends 3) finding a good job that I liked and was good, 4) I lived in a Buddhist temple in Japan for 2 years and learned to quiet my mind and 5) finding my wife and starting a family.

If you are years from such life events, then take heart. Stay positive. Always look on the bright side of life!

Consult the I Ching

Being depressed is tough because if bogs you down. Part of the problem is not being able to see the processes that are happening in your life. Your life is made up of 100's if not thousands of influences that all have a process. The Chinese book "I Ching" helps Westerners who use it to look at the bigger picture, to be patient and to work on only those things you can control.
