<center> The dictionary meaning of a prophet is Someone who speaks by divine inspiration.Someone who predicts the future; a soothsayer. A prophet is more than that according to the scriptures.Prophet is better defined as "one who speaks for another."A true prophet, then,is a person who speaks for God, delivering a message that God has ordained him to give. If you watch any television, listen to any radio or podcasts, keep up on the news, or interact at depth with just about anyone in modern society, you are being exposed to some form of false teaching.A false prophet is simply someone who speaks for another but falsely. False prophets either speak for the wrong god, or they claim to have heard from the true God but do not accurately represent Him or His words. It is true that, if a prophet foretells something that fails to come to pass, he is a false prophet ( Deuteronomy 18:20-22 ), but foretelling the future correctly is not the determining factor when looking at false prophets. The real issue is whether one who claims to be representing God and speaking for Him, is doing so accurately or falsely. A prophet may accurately predict an event or demonstrate supernatural power, but if he is leading people away from the true worship of the true God, he is a false prophet.  # CHARACTERISTIC OF A FALSE PROPHETS Their driving force is the corrupt desire of the sinful nature. As that drives them, they exhibit the following character traits: ## They are bold and arrogant 2 Peter 2:10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; ## They blaspheme and slander 2 peter2: 11-12 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord.But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish. ## they are like brute beasts v. 12 2peter 2:12 But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish. ## they carouse in broad daylight,They are,blot and blemishes,They have eyes full of adultery,They never stop sinning They are expert in greed 2 peter2:13-14 They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood! ## The have left the straight away 2 Peter 2:15-16 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness.:But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey—an animal without speech—who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness. ## They are spring without water and midst driven by a storm 2 Peter 2:17 These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. ## they mouth empty boastful words,They appeal to the lustful desire of sinful human nature 2 Peter 2:18 :For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. ## they promise people freedom while they themselves are slaves to depravity 2 peter2:19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”  __Of them the proverb is true: a dog return to its vomit" and "a sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mind"__ *we have outlined these traits for two reasons* Evaluate the teacher you sit under, are they false teachers? They maybe involved involved in only one or two of these traits. Anybody (Christian) can become a false teacher if he leaves the straightway and wonder off. So watch your life and doctrine closely. >Prayer: lord open my eyes and help me not to sit under false teachers.
