<center>Hi everyone, today I will be talking about how and what determines the reward between the curator and the author, I know for every newbies this question is very important and I will be giving you guys details about it today. *Firstly I will like to say what curator means and who is an author.*  # Who is an author? I think we are all familiar with the word author, and I know you must have your own way of defining it but I will like to define it in a very simple way. An author is the originator or creator of a work, especially of a literary composition. Someone who writes books for a living, a bookwright. so, let relate it to steemit is a person who write a post or a blog. *hope you are following ? Fine* # Who is a curator? Curator is a very common word here on steemit, I don't know what it means before but now I do, lemme define it like this, Curator is a person who upvote your post. *You now see the different between an author and a curator, let us go to the next phase* # What determines how much of the reward goes to the author versus curators? The reward are distributed like this, 75% reward goes to the author and 25% goes to the curator. The author will also have part of the 25% reward, if the curator vote around 30 minutes, The split of the 25% between the author and curator during the first 30 minutes is calculated linearly based on the time the vote is cast. **0 minutes to 2.59 minutes** Most post that makes is to trending page are not upvoted at very moment Of posting, this is because any post that's upvoted at this time range, the 100% of all the rewards goes to the author and that is the reason you don't always have upvote at the moment of posting, so is not advisable to upvote at very moment of posting if you want to make more money. **3 minutes to 14 minutes** I don't know if you have notice that not a lot of upvote comes in during this time range and is because of the split. The author have 90% of the upvotes and the curator have just 10% of the upvote. So, you see why upvote don't really come in during this time. **15 minutes to 26 minutes** Is not also good to vote during this time range because the split will be 50/50 and you don't wanna vote during this time if you want to have your full share.. *Hope you are following? Good* **27 minutes to 29 minutes** This time range is good but not good enough because the author will still have 10% of the split and the curators will have 90%. You see is not good enough **30 minutes** If a post is upvoted after 30 minutes the curators have the 100% of the rewards, so, which time range do you prefer?
