A total of 20 hours (my best record in a full-body digital painting + background, well ignoring the fact that it was in gray scale xD), if I made mistakes, excuse me. My slave factory (known as a university) has left me free since Friday; and as always, I do not give up on a challenge until I gave my last breath (literally). So here I present my entry for the contest of @ melooo182. I have a whole list of several creatures that I would like to do in the future, but the one that inspired me the most was the story of Arachne, the best weaver who challenged the skill of Athena (the goddess of wisdom, war and crafts)
The best weaver:
*Arachne was the daughter of the famous dyer of Hypaia (Lydia), Idmon, famous for his use of the purple of Tire. Due to her father's profession, Arachne became famous for her skills in weaving. With time, she began to consider herself the best weaver, better even than the goddess Athena herself. The goddess, known throughout Greek mythology for her irascibility, disguised herself as an old woman and went to see Arachne, to see how far the presumptions of the young woman were coming. When she saw her tapestries, the goddess doubted that they were from her hand to what Arachne replied that her skill weaving was comparable to that of the gods. Athena wanted to give a last chance to redeem Arachne and warned her not to anger the gods. Arachne scoffed at his advice and continued saying that she would like to participate in a weaving competition with Athena herself to be able to test her skills. Athena then made herself known and accepted the challenge. The goddess wove a scene that represented her victory over Poseidon, while the young mortal chose for her tapestry a representation of the twenty-two episodes of infidelity of the Gods of Olympus, which infuriated Athena even more.* *Despite recognizing that Arachne's work was perfect, Athena was so furious at the young woman's lack of respect for the gods that, in a moment of rage, she destroyed Arachne's tapestry. This one, full of sadness, tried to commit suicide shortly after. Feeling sorry for the young woman, Athena transformed her into a spider before she could kill herself, but making sure that the spider kept the skill of Arachne weaving.* sources: https://santuariodelalba.wordpress.com/2015/07/01/aracne-la-mujer-arana/ Like every work I seek to do, I wanted to keep an interesting composition and idea: I wanted to make her as a character to be careful with, and with this idea the composition started with a lower view towards Arachne. I have to admit that the background changed from a cave to a forest, but still my main idea was kept: the spectator to be trapped in her web. I also got an extra advantage: as I wanted to make a dark environment scenario, Grayscale would be perfect, a practical advantage for the time and the essence of the environment. Now if you allow me ... I have to go into a coma, my arms hurt.
