Analysing Art By EdgarsArt
Being critical about certain things usually is a good thing. It lets you see the flaws, the mistakes and it can develop you to do better. In art being critical in my view is necessary. But of course you can be honest about your work or someone else's. And it does bring up some mixed feelings for some people. I personally am open to criticism, constructive, because it develops me and lets me grow.
But be sure not to get angry or mad when someone says he does not like what you created. That is only a personal side of view. And it can not be seen as a real valuation of your art or any creative material you made.

Now I was thinking about art analysis. The most easiest way how to rate an artwork is just to simplify and say:
* that I liked it
* I did not like it

This is mostly a personal opinion and can not be really called analysis. Something I mentioned in the start of my post. You have to look deeper into this means to follow the steps and decisions an artist made and to follow them in order to find out logically why he made them. Basically that would mean to read the mind of an artist through the particular piece he has created.

The second way to in a way analyze a work, would be a description of it.
 It is more than saying I liked it or I did not. But it is also a false way too because description is not analysis. It is the next step, you have to add some thoughts, your ideas on why the certain things are how they are. Proposing your own explanation on why the colours were used like that, or why the contrast was so bright and not even thinking about all the little things, little messages, meanings, the mood. Or to find something else an artist added to the piece.
Also the size of the artwork is important. How it affects the work. No artist makes a work just because he had nothing to do. The size, proportions, colors, brightness, everything means something and everything was thought about. Just like a composer. Or a song writer. Every word means something and was not thrown in just for nothing.

One more aspect which I have been having in my mind is that sometimes sketches are even deeper than the actual end results. Sketches, start ideas are the origins of something great and sometimes those are hiding something that after a week, after a year, or maybe even in the same evening will develop from being just something made in 5 minutes to something that will be exhibited in an art gallery. Or travel all around the world.

Speaking from a personal stand point, I think that not everything should be criticized. For example many people are looking at any drawing, painting, whatever the medium might be and they are valuing it in categories like - how technically good it is done. But that may not be the purpose and that is only in the second place. Sometimes the style, the meaning, does not really fit or require the work to be done perfectly.
A piece of art can still be at a sketch level, yet posses something greater than a realistic lion drawing. And both pieces I personally think should be valued on more than one aspect. Yes, technically the lion drawing is realism and therefore it is done great. But if we will look at the meaning, purpose of the work, I can suppose that in the most cases both would be equally powerful.

These subjects have been going around my mind quite some time. Plus as a person I want to develop my knowledge in Art. I could even say that it takes large amount of patience, intelligence to even talk about art in a way of understanding it. Valuing it, criticizing. Or even experience art which was created by someone else.

All of this is really complicated. At least for me it is, and even tho I am an artist and I have been creating artworks, it is really hard for me to understand other artists completely. I think the mind of an artist in so deep that only by going all in with all of your heart, you might be able to seek and find the true pure heart of every artwork.
I am experiencing this very much in my personal daily life too. Quite often, because my girlfriend is an artist and there are times when I am amazed of her works. The deepness of them really impresses me and sometimes I am really feeling blocked from getting to that meaning. Often all I can do is to try to guess. This why it takes me time to look at her works too and I usually look at those months later to see if I can feel something I did not felt then.
As a person I quite often overact things, want too much or too little, sometimes I say too much, I do not say anything when the situation asked it. But this interest in art (not only simply creating it) and having a creative person beside me helps me to discipline myself and to grow. I am extremely thankful that I was able to connect with someone that much to see how it makes me a better person.
