___ ___ ##### Welcome to building your steemdom, a multi chapter series where I will be giving advice and tips on growing in the platform. This hopes to better inform our minds as to what steemit is and how to grow a better portfolio on the platform. ___ ___ # Introduction to steemit ___ ___ > # Do you know that Ctrl+C (copy) and Ctrl+V (paste) does not only apply to plaigarized articles, there is also the plagiarized life. ___ ___ ##### Of course we all know that steemit is a possibility on the steem blockchain. I used the term "possibility" for two reasons. One is for simplicity, the other is to emphasize the point that it is not all about blogging. ___ ___ ##### There are so many ways of creating accounts on this beautiful platform from the normal route through steemit.com to other routes like anon steem, vessel, steeminvite among others. ##### Obviously, steemit functions on two basic currencies: - Steem Backed Dollar (SBD) - Steem/Steem power ___ ___ ##### The Steem Backed Dollar is characterized by it's stability. By that I mean it was designed not to go below - 0.20 away from the $1 mark for a long period of time. ##### The Steem is characterized by it's dynamic nature. This means that it was designed for numerous applications. ___ ___ ##### On the platform, the eventual payout is calculated that after paying curators (everyone who voted for you), the rest is split into SBD and Steem in such a way that it equals the current conversion rate upon eventual payout. ##### We need to understand that all payouts are potential until it becomes eventual. What that means is that it could swing either way, it can go higher or lower or even remain fixed. ___ ___ 222.jpg) ##### Now your blog can do a number of things, from editing, commenting, replying, checking the number of views, your top twenty voters and the number of votes received, day/time of post, post promotion on the platform, to slightly complex things like promoting your links on other social media sites like twitter, linkedin and facebook. ___ ___ # Making your first post ___ ___ ##### After signing up on the platform, you have to write your first post, Houston we have a problem, what to do? 111.jpg) ___ ___ ### The top box ___ ___ ##### The top most box is where you input your title. The essence of this is to make your post easy to locate by title, that way, someone searching for a particular topic can input it and get search results or something close to it. ##### Remember this helpful tip which I am about to drop, your title says a lot about the calibre of post you are about putting out. There is a difference between " Celebrities in dresses" and something like "Top celebrities caught promoting this new fashion madness." ___ ___ ##### The first will simply be ignored by most readers because the title alone seems un-appealing, but the second will tempt you into clicking and finding out what fashion madness is being referenced. ___ ___ ### The middle box ___ ___ ##### The middle box is for you content. Of course the title is good, but that is only one third of the journey. You have to put out good and original stuffs which should reflect your character. A plagiarist or lazy author will have issues communicating with his audience as the aim of writing is communication. I will explain that in details later. ___ ___ ##### Pour out your creativity in that box and show your stuff. Good authors are not born with writing, they hone those skills over time and that is how to grow. Always remember practice makes perfect. When you visit external blogs maybe for research or reference, instead of copying and pasting the content here (which the community frowns upon), simply learn how they write, study it, mimick it to an extent if you like it, but use your words and personalize your writing style. ___ ___ ##### Remember that as tempting as it is to simply copy and paste, it is equally tempting to flag such posts into oblivion. Want to know more about flagging, we'll also discuss it later. ##### Another quick tip: Try to use active words when typing, they string your audiences along better and try to run your posts with a plagiarism checker before posting. ___ ___ ### The bottom box ___ ___ ##### After completing the first two boxes, we are almost there. One of the greatest problems on the platformis poor post visibility and that is majorly attributed to poor tagging. ##### Now most people are of habit of becoming what I call "Tag developers." They just write a bunch of random tags that pops into their heads and expect whales who were not following them to easily see such posts. ___ ___ ##### Truth be told, wrong tagging especially for newbies greatly reduces your chances of getting a decent post payout. The tags are already limited in the sense that you have a maximum of five tags and a minimum of one. ##### Tags are case sensitive, you can only use lower case when typing tags and leave a space in between each tags. If you go and waste the wrong tags on a beautiful post, you will definitely have yourself to blame. ___ ___ ##### If you are reading this then I say "Welcome to steemit" a place where you can be anyone and anything. This is the future of a transparent world. ##### Welcome to December! ___ ___ ##### You can follow me on twitter by clicking the icon [](https://twitter.com/Danny_defcon4) ___ ___ ##### Thanks to @camzy/ @samstickkz and @elyaque for the animated art and badge ##### Support @curie, @ausbitbank, @teamsteem, @xeldal, @steemgigs for witness ##### First image from [pixabay](https://pixabay.com/) ___ ___ https://steemitimages.com/DQmYfKYGX2M8Qc8nNUi6TqUzHKoeLmafZ6PVBMjt7wjXe5R/new%20footer.gif
