"The Firestarter" - A Poem

Your footsteps
Grew quieter
Quieter
Then silence
And it was
The end
But not
Far from forgotten
The loose ends
That would fray
The moment you
Stepped away
The awkwardness
Would tell
Things you once hid so well
With your presence
But now your absence
Shines a blinding light
Screams the obvious
Tells the story
Loudly
Charm is your sword
Charm is your shield
Charm is all you need
To make the strong yield
So quietly
While heads are turned
You’ll run, run, run
Reeking of gas
As the city burns

There's a story behind this poem but I don't think I'll be telling it today (nothing traumatic, thankfully). I feel a weight has lifted off of me to have said something about it, even if it's hidden somewhere under poetic language.

Peace ☮️.
