Hey everyone, I hope you had a weekend which brought one or the other interesting experience into your life! In my new post I would like to share a unique experience I had in China.

When it comes to operas, China is very high up and there are numerous different styles that differ from each other due to different characteristics or regions and the form I have visited is one of the oldest forms. Kunqu opera is extremely diverse and stands out from other forms of performance by the various influences and here visitors can admire influences of music, poetry, dance, drama or more and it can also be described as an important precursor for other styles. Kunqu already has a centuries-long history behind it and was probably created during the Ming dynasty and it should not take long until the acceptance and popularity increased more and more and was also celebrated in other regions and it became a well-known art form which became popular with different social classes. It is a very important basis for other forms of theater and to this day the actors usually strictly follow the original values from the time of creation, which is noticeable in the structures and has a high value of recognition through the mild and high-quality playing style.

I made the experience on my last day when I was in Shanghai in the Zhujiajiao area and spontaneously got an invitation that I could not refuse. The special thing is that the performance took place outdoors and this unique experience has already started in daylight until the late evening hours and you definitely don't get to see this scenery of a garden and pavilion every day. In any case, the performance seemed very traditional or aesthetic and here the whole atmosphere was just right and I can only recommend to everyone who should visit this area to play with the idea of watching this opera or planning it so to come when the performance takes place, which is not always the case and I was lucky enough to visit this traditional opera that evening.
