Hey everyone, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you had a weekend which brought some interesting experiences into your life! In my new post I would like to share some moments with you that I have collected during my trip to Athens. During my holiday in Athens I visited the temple of Hephaestus, which is relatively centrally located in Athens near the Old Agora. It's probably one of the temples that are still in a particularly good condition while others have been destroyed, the temple of the blacksmith god has held up very well and attracts thousands of visitors every year who admire the special form of the architecture. As already mentioned in one of my last contributions, I decided to buy the combination ticket at the Acropolis which cost 30$ and made it possible to enter the Agora and who should decide to buy a single ticket already pays ten dollars and I can recommend to every visitor who values culture to buy the combined ticket in which many other places can also be visited in addition to the Acropolis and it's worthwhile in any case. If you don't know Hephaestus yet, it is the god of fire and blacksmithing, which was mainly responsible for producing the armour, weapons or other metal objects for the other gods and as an equivalent of him from Roman mythology, Vulcan is also known. He was especially worshipped by blacksmiths as well as other crafts and it's assumed that there were some forges near the temple and a huge cult around Hephaestus was created which were celebrated in regular rituals. Even though his most famous place of worship is in Athens, he was particularly highly worshipped on the island of Lemnos where, according to legends, he had a forge in a volcano and when it was active, people thought that he was particularly active and created weapons and because of great respect, people regularly sacrificed to tame his anger. The temple in Athens is probably several thousand years old and consists of several columns which have been created of marble and in addition the temple was also dedicated to his wife Athena who is also known as the goddess of wisdom. Many thanks for the visit and I hope you could learn something new about this unique place! I captured these pictures with my Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
