Warning: Currently only Blocktrades and Bittrex can be used to sell Steem tokens [correction, now only Blocktrades]
# I just want to make a correction. I just tried to use Bittrex, and it dun werk. Only blocktrades exit from Steem this minute.

<div class="pull-left"><h1> There</h1></div><h3>&nbsp;</h3>is currently only <del>one way</del> two ways I am aware of that you can sell your Steem and SBD for anything else...

<br />I discovered this while composing this post:

Changelly has not been trading Steem or SBD for some time:

Neither has Poloniex, and they had 1235 SP of mine locked up for 19 days, last month, which greatly messed up my plans:

I was quite alarmed when I thought that Blocktrades might not be working, but obviously the somewhat crappy scripts thtat run the site were just being laggy (or the backend was laggy, in which case there is some cause for alarm).

Bittrex is still working too

# One day soon, there could be no way to sell your Steem. (at least for a time)

<br />I strongly advise that if you can, to move your Steem holdings elsewhere for a while, to Dash, to Monero, to Zcash, even Ethereum, LTC or BTC, as you may prefer.

There is a serious technical problem coming up that may lead to serious, and possibly long lasting, or, (God forbid) permanent inability to sell Steem based tokens. I have been warning about this since November last year. People just thought I was being melodramatic. **Look where we are now.**

It is my opinion, that probably something will be done very soon. A lot of people have a lot at stake here, and it's really just a matter of fixing the technical problem.

## Unfortunately, I suspect the fix is going to be a resetting of the chain, with a migration of accounts and current balances.

It could take a few weeks to organise this, *if* anyone is indeed organising this.

I also would not count on it being Steemit, Inc. that will take this drastic step.

Be careful out there. The Crypto universe is full of rats.

But, though there is cause for concern, I admonish you follow the instructions on the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:

# Don't Panic

<br />Just take reasonable steps to protect yourself. As I say, there is too many people with too much at stake (over 200 million bux worth of stake) for this to just evaporate into a puff of smoke. ***But it might be a rocky ride to resolution.***

> Note that it was due to my knowledge of the technical issue that is looming and threatening to potentially disrupt this system, that when I found myself with a lot of value from my Steem, that I spent a lot of money on getting a pair of mining rigs, so that I would have ongoing income.
>
> It has turned out to be a very wise move, as I now am not forced into a situation to chase a job working for a company with a bad management culture in an outsourcing operator here in Sofia. Yes, I could just walk into a regular job here, with my combination of technical skills, excellent english and adequate bulgarian. But I would prefer to be working for the community, and this work means building a better Steem Engine. So to speak.
>
> Even as I contemplate implementation using SporeDB, a work-in-progress BFT database platform, I am also aware that if the platform is outrageously successful, it will need to have a scaling strategy baked in from an early stage, to avoid this kind of problem from technical issues with the database system. So, it will be a high priority, once DIV goes online, to ensure there is a means to shard the database and break apart the load so that it can cope with extreme high loading, ultimately, we want it to be able to keep up with a workload like Facebook.
>
> This is unprecedented in open, self-governing distributed database systems, which are still even only just at the stage of using the unscalable blockchain metaphor and as of Steem, only starting to explore how to cope with mass adoption without centralisation.

Make no mistake, I am not ringing alarm bells because I like to be alarming. It is epically cool that a blockchain system has been adapted to support a forum. Once you join Steem, you don't ever want to go back to Facebook or Twitter or Reddit, or any of the millions of little islands in the net. You want one, universal, distributed platform, forever and ever, amen.
