As the weather remained fine, we recently visited Bridlington, which is a seaside town in the East Riding of Yorkshire, UK and is only a couple of hours away from where I live.

As we arrived, we decided to book a place on the Yorkshire Belle, a very old boat that’s been recently recommissioned and, along with the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds), offers three hour cruises from Bridlington harbour to Bempton Cliffs for a spot of bird watching.

Onboard, we found the crew was very friendly with their very informative commentary. The RSPB volunteers were also aboard to answer any of our questions.

On board, we spotted the gannets with their six foot wingspan dive into the sea for food. It is a wonder they don’t break their necks but their bodies are cleverly designed not to get harmed.

We also spotted some shags, which look very similar to cormorants. A few were with their young.

The birdlife and the views were just beautiful. Well worth the trip.
