I’m just a lonely little introvert without a place to fit in. I set off last year to find that place. It was supposed to be a short term travel experience teaching English and learning Chinese. But it turned into short few month visit to hell, and experiencing what it feels like to be at the center of some of the most famous corruption in history.

Oh and then I decided to become a resident and move there permanently.

It took me two months and four days to realise who I was actually working for on my innocent travels. The equivalent of a vice-president in the communist party, his wife, a descendant of Chinese royalty, his children and grandchildren.

Recently my father has had multiple life threatening illnesses and I have returned to my home country, Australia, to become his full time carer. I am still adjusting to the culture shock, people speaking English, not smoking indoors, being allowed to  say the word government out loud, knowing about Tiananmen square 1989, little things like that.

I can tell you things that will make you hate or love China, things that will make you hate or love me, and things that could send me to prison for the rest of my life. But I can also teach you a bit about fishing and cooking.

Now I spend most of my time looking after my father, organizing thoughts and expressing them through writing, drinking, fishing, studying, working in juvenile detention and travelling whenever I have the opportunity.
