**Questo è il primo post di una serie di quattro.**

Il Venezuela recentemente ha dato vita alla prima criptovaluta governativa al mondo, denominata Petro.
Qui non sono interessato a parlare dei dettagli della stessa, tra l’altro molti ritengono questo progetto un puro scam, un estremo tentativo da parte del leader venezuelano di resistere ad una  disastrosa crisi economica.

Ciò che sembra interessante notare è che il Petro si appoggia su un qualcosa di valore , cioè le immense riserve petrolifere del paese.

Quindi sembra un progetto in controtendenza alle fiat money, vale a dire le monete a corso legale, quali dollaro, euro, yien, ecc ...che non sono coperte da riserve di altri materiali (ad esempio: riserve auree), e quindi privo di valore intrinseco.

Il Petro sembra una criptomoneta basata su un qualcosa di reale e di alto valore soggettivo.

Tutto questo può costituire un vantaggio per il Petro?

Le monete fiat si sono sganciate dalle riserve auree già da molto tempo e in effetti funzionano, non sembra necessario quindi una riserva di valore per garantire il valore della stessa moneta, la fiducia che gli utilizzatori hanno nella stessa, sembra di per sè una riserva di valore.

Le monete fiat funzionano da tempo, anche se il loro funzionamento sembra tutt’altro che perfetto.

Proprio in questi ultimi mesi assistiamo ad un crollo di valore di molte monete, soprattutto nei paesi in via di sviluppo, che vedono perdere il loro valore a causa di una mancanza di fiducia nelle stesse.
E’ vero che si può convertire una valuta in un’altra, vendere lire turche per affidarsi ad una moneta considerata più sicura come il dollaro, ma una corsa di questo tipo rischia di far rimanere col cerino in mano migliaia di persone e distruggere, non solo il valore di una moneta, ma anche conseguentemente un’intera economia.

Dunque la fiducia non sembra essere sufficiente di per sè a garantire il valore di una moneta fiat.

Il Petro può essere la risposta a questa mancanza di un sottostante, che dia veramente un valore alla moneta?

**This is the first post of a series of four.**

Venezuela recently gave birth to the world's first government cryptocurrency, called Petro.
Here I am not interested in talking about the details of the same, among other things, many consider this project a pure scam, a last attempt by the Venezuelan leader to resist a disastrous economic crisis.

What seems interesting to note is that the Petro relies on something of value, that is the immense oil reserves of the country.

So it seems a project against the fiat money, that is to say the legal tender currencies, such as dollar, euro, yien, etc ... that are not covered by reserves of other materials (for example: gold reserves), and therefore without of intrinsic value.

The Petro looks like a cryptomena based on something real and of high subjective value.

Can this all be an advantage for Petro?

The fiat coins have been released from gold reserves for a long time and actually work, it does not seem necessary therefore a reserve of value to ensure the value of the same currency, the confidence that users have in it, seems in itself a reserve of value.

The fiat coins have been working for a long time, even if their functioning seems far from perfect.

In recent months we have witnessed a collapse in the value of many currencies, especially in developing countries, which are losing their value due to a lack of confidence in them.
It is true that one can convert one currency into another, sell Turkish lira to rely on a currency considered more secure as the dollar, but such a race runs the risk of keeping thousands of people in their hands and destroying, not only the value of a currency, but also consequently an entire economy.

So trust does not seem to be sufficient in itself to guarantee the value of a fiat currency.

Can Petro be the answer to this lack of an underlying, which really gives value to money?
