For those of us who read the columns of the Financial Times or the Economist, it has been hard to miss this recurring soundbite: “I like blockchain but I don’t like crypto”. The writers then go onto superficially saying that crypto is a pyramid scheme, but hey, blockchain is great technology which will revolutionize industries from financial services to natural resources and logistics. How strange that these writers seem to miss the point of the tokenized economy. Maybe they haven’t connected the dots – after all this is a space where tech and economics converge in a new way: it’s easy to look at parts of it in isolation, but understanding the whole takes a broader more multidisciplinary approach. To make it worse major publications seldom bother distinguishing between cryptocurrencies and tokens. How nice would it be if they could make the effort? Wouldn’t you like to open the Economist or the FT to find an overview of the Ethereum ecosystem with an informed discussion around the protocol, tokenization and decentralization?
