As much as people hate news, I think you can find a way to select what you want and you don't have to go through all the sh_t they are giving you every day. I mostly use twitter as it's just a short note with a photo what news accounts are uploading and I can decide if I'm interested in reading the whole article or not. 

Yesterday I saw an article about a 73 year old (I hope I'm not mistaken) man who has just finished collage. He could not study when he was young because of the war but never gave up his dream and he finally made it. It was a very nice story that made me remember one of my neighbor ladies who unfortunately is no longer with us.

This happened years ago, when I started studying English. She was already a granny and was my classmate. There was a two generation difference between us but I admired her passion and devotion. She had a son in the United States and grandchildren as well and she and her husband were planning to pay them a visit. She wanted to learn English to be able to chat with her grandchildren. 

I must admit, I started from scratch, all I know was hi and bye when I decided to sign up and she was exactly on the same level. Obviously it's easier to learn any kind of language if you are young and it becomes harder and harder as you get older. 

We were having test at the end of each trimester. You had to get at least 50% to pass and she wasn't doing great. The teacher was her friend, another old lady, a granny and who gave her test back and let her take it another time. It's wasn't ethical and if it would have been about a younger person this would have never happened but the teacher was indulgent with her. She dropped out after the second year as they left to visit their son and grandchildren.

Her story is always in my mind, I can't forget her. It's a lesson to me and not only to me. I believe learning is very important in life if you want to achieve something. No matter how old you are, you can always learn something, it's never a shame.
