There had been a lot of talk about the new tribes that we have from some time. I've been watching and testing them quietly as usual but I believe it's time to say a word about what's going on and how I see things here. This is not an advice, just my personal opinion. 

For the last few months we've got quite a few tribes to choose from with their tokens that can be earned by blogging. It's the same as with Steem before yet very different. Before these tribes,  tag usage has been somehow regulated as you were allowed to use mostly five tags and all related to the topic you were covering in your post. 

Now you can use a great number of tags which should be related to the topic of your post plus other tribe related tags that match your topic. There are tags you can use on any topic, others are specific to a topic. 

This new situation looks like heaven for some, compared to what life has been before tribes. Some see many possibilities, endless ways of earning and try everything to earn a few tokens and this is when paradise is transferred into hell if we allow it. Sounds scary, right? Maybe but it's reality and must be acknowledged and dealt with before it's too late. 

Unfortunately with possibilities come responsibilities too, everyone need to understand that. Tribes are formed by people from Steem and are the exact same people that have been making Steem great or the other category that has been busy milking the platform by always finding a way of spanning,  cheating and farming.  

The success of a tribe depends on how they are able to control their environment. This is a decentralized platform however there are rules that need to be respected, like it or not. If you are able to fight abuse, you have a future as a tribe. 

Unfortunately not many tribes are able or willing to get implicated in cleaning up their own place. This is something I will never understand but who am I to understand everything, right?  There are tribes, front ends and dapps that are not fighting abuse, they are even supporting and promoting spam content.

This is the moment when some would argue that it's their own business, what do I care? Reality however says we have to care, there's no other choice here and let me give you an example. 

Let's say a user authors  a post through a dapp using different tribe tags. The reward the author is  getting is not just Steem/SBD and SP. He's also getting tribe tokens depending on the situation. If the post doesn't meet the necessary requirements the rewards can be taken away. This is great but not easy to do. 

Steemcleaners, macbot and the other similar services dedicated to fight abuse are downvoting these posts but they can only take away Steem, the other tokens will remain as pending till payout. Here comes the tribes responsibility. 

Your tokens value can increase or decrease influenced by various factors. Airdrops made it possible for users to get tokens for free. Some have dumped their tokens at the existing price without thinking of the future. These mass dumpings have caused many tokens to decrease in value. This is a usual behavior, which can last for a short while then the value can increase again once these dumping are over but this is just one aspect. The other thing that can influence the price of the token is how you are able to control your own environment. 

Some tribes have moderators who are responsible for fighting abuse and also got support from the community, the major stake holders are making sure these abusers are stopped in time and sending a clear message saying abuse is not accepted. They are protecting their own investment. These are the tribes that are going to survive and thrive in time, attract investors and strengthen their token's value. It's a rough path, a bumpy road, needs a lot of work and dedicated people but it's the right one and the only one in my humble opinion. 

Those who are abusing every tribe by using an endless number of tags regardless of the topic they are posting about, spammers, plagiarists, cheaters will always find a new tribe to abuse. The question is are we going to let them? 

This is the time for tribes, front ends and dapps to wake up, review their strategy, make alliances and start fighting abuse. The sooner the better, time is of the essence here.
