A couple of days ago I promised you I will show you the vegetable garden and today I'd like to do that. Let's start at the beginning.  Last time I showed you this weeds sheet and was empty as the melon and honeydew seedlings were still small, too small. But since then, enough time passed for them to grow stronger and they are in the ground now. Yay, everything seems to be going perfectly, but is it?  After I took the first photo, the next morning, I saw this *rout* on the weeds sheet. That's not some kind of abstract art.  It was done by this little guy, who's up to no good. They eat the seedlings, till there's nothing left of them.  These are the seedlings, still small and vulnerable. If you have a close look, there are those blue granules on the sheet, those are for the snails. It's the only way to protect the seedlings.  Beans are looking very good, no problem with them and I hope we won't end up like last year, when due to extreme heat and very strong sunlight, the flowers basically got burnt.  Watering is still a must as rain is a scarce asset.    Tomatoes have grown quite a lot and they are at a phase, where they need to be tied to the net, to help them grow upwards. These are running tomatoes, not the type that grows on the ground. I don't like those. We had those for a few years, but these are way better. The rope we used to tie up the tomatoes are also recycled. These are the ropes used to tie hay. Still usable, so perfect for the job.   Basil is growing nicely as well, we need it for the tomato sauce we're making each year. It's excellent for pizza and different kind of pasta dishes. The main veggie here is a kohlrabi, but there were empty spots, so those were filled with basil and pepper. Kohlrabi is looking nice.   Peppers are still small, I suppose they don't grow as fast as the rest of the seedlings, but there's still time.   This is the dill, that is growing wildly. It's a green spice we have each year.  Potatoes are big, at least the part above the ground, but you know that's not the part we eat. Most likely a month or a month and a half is still needed, but can't wait to have some potato with parsley, or just fried potatoes.   This is kind of a shame. It supposed to be carrots and parsley, but trust me, this is already way better than in the past few years. Something is not right, either the soil or the seeds, although we have tried all kinds of seeds and none of them have worked. This is not our problem as the neighbors are facing the same difficulties, so I suppose it's the soil.  We already had onions from the garden and it's a good feeling to harvest your own veggies. Most likely at the end of July we can harvest all of it.  Celery and peppers.  More beans!  Bean flowers are going to appear soon.  We still have some spare seedlings, in case something bad happens, but better not. There was no hailing this year, nor storm to disturb the garden, but who knows.
