Hey guys!! here is another quick DIY, this time for something a little more crypto related. I've been building rigs and mining since before Dogecoin and there have been many things I have learned along the way. The most important thing I learned was, the more money you spend, the more you cut into your profits. I love the look of the 6 GPU open ait mining racks you could buy, but they were pretty much as expensive as a graphics card, so naturally I stayed away from those. Recently I picked up a ton of these old 2U rack servers (cause I love computers and someone was throwing them away). They look like this http://i.imgur.com/EAEU345.jpg They are super fun to mess with, but the most intriguing thing is they have some sweet fans pushing some serious air through the components. I thought to myself, If i could strip it down to just the fans, I could modify it to hold 6 GPU and get cooled with the server fans. so I took out all the components using a drill to cut through the rivets and I got it as empty as I could. I started cutting some foam to seat the USB Risers into. http://i.imgur.com/YaBMT7Y.jpg I even got a small aluminum bar to rivet onto the back side to have something to screw the GPUs to. http://imgur.com/qQVGx71.jpg I already had some GPUs and risers so I got to put everything together right away. http://imgur.com/55lNJFy.jpg http://imgur.com/o6BCvN8.jpg http://imgur.com/936ZZrf.jpg It took me about 2 hours to complete the whole thing and get it up and running, and I also purchased a 1200w dell server PSU with a breakout board to really cut down on power supply costs. Now its been mining away and keeping cool for over 2 months now. Still haven't loaded it up to 6 GPUs though. http://i.imgur.com/K8pkhyj.jpg #steembotcome @berniesanders @dantheman @fuzzyvest
