McDonald's begins with two enterprising brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald, who opened the first fast food restaurant in California in 1937, then moved to San Bernardino, California, in 1948. With a little hamburger called Speedee as logo and including a limited menu and a high volume of sales that characterized the success of the new restaurant.

In 1954, Ray Kroc, a supplier of the shake machine, surprised by the magnitude of the order of multi-mixers equipment requested, visited the premises of the McDonald brothers and proposed to open more premises. A year later, the McDonald brothers granted Kroc exclusive rights to commercialize and operate the McDonald's business.

Thus, on April 15, 1955, the first McDonald's Corporation location was opened in Des Plaines, Illinois (USA). And in July, the second in Fresno, California. The total sales of the company is $ 193,772. In 1956, it adds 12 restaurants and in 1957, it already has 40.

From then on, Kroc made McDonald's the world's largest fast-service organization, basing its success on the operational philosophy of the McDonald's system: Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value.

In 1960, Ronald McDonald was born characterized by Willard Scott surviving on a local television with his character Bozo the Clown, source of inspiration for Krusty the clown of "The Simpsons". According to Scott in his biography "The Joy of Living", Bozo was one of the most beloved characters by the American children of the time. Thus, the McDonald's contacted Scott so that Bozo could be seen by the opening of the first restaurant in Alexandria, Virginia: Just three years later, in 1963, Bozo's show had been canceled and McDonald's asked Scott to invent another brand new character to fill his gap. "So I sat down and created Ronald McDonald's," says the creature's father in his book.

In 1961 Ray Kroc buys McDonald's shares for $ 2.7 million. In addition, he opens Hamburger University in a basement of an Illinois restaurant and the logo of the golden arches emerges.

In 1965 the chain celebrates its tenth anniversary with the first public offering of shares at $ 22.5 each. In 1966, McDonald's is listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the MCD quote key.

In 1967 the chain opened its first branch outside the United States in Canada and Puerto Rico, in 1990 the first McDonald's opened in Moscow, a symbol of the new times.

McDonald's is a company that changed the way we do business in the world. In 2000, McDonald's has three new brands: Donatos (chain of pizzerias), Chipotle Mexican Grill (Mexican food for better consumers) and Boston Market (chicken chain). According to Dennis Lombardi, manager of the firm, "they are positioning themselves to be much more flexible and able to respond to market opportunities."

In 2010, McDonald's has a presence in 119 territories and countries around the world. It is estimated that they serve 58 million customers a day in a total of 31,000 restaurants that employ more than 1.5 million people.
