I've been on steemit for about 4-5 days and I have seen a feature I'm unsure about.

What is this figure and forgive me if I'm asking a stupid question. (I've tried googling it but all I'm getting is pictures of random dogs) also is it linked to my upvoting? 

Also how to you get it higher or does it grow naturally.
