[The most widely accepted theory of planetary formation, known as the nebular hypothesis, maintains that 4.6 billion years ago, the Solar System formed from the gravitational collapse of a giant molecular cloud which was light years across. Several stars, including the Sun, formed within the collapsing cloud.](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjq18z-rfbfAhUJP6wKHa1BCAsQFjABegQIBBAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FHistory_of_Solar_System_formation_and_evolution_hypotheses&usg=AOvVaw3lqSqhn62x6NM4dzPJd9kl)

The of 'Acretion'. hypothesis assumes that objects with a differential speed of thousands of miles per hour [collided with each other](https://sen.com/news/bug-eyed-telescopes-could-search-for-threatening-near-earth-objects) and stick.

Or...as demonstrated on earth.
