If a steemer invested(bought steem with cash)  so that he had enough steem power for effectvie throw weight.
.....enough so that he got significant return for each vote, 
How is that different from spending money on a mining rig...doin't all the geeking things...and getting money that way?
OR
How is it any different than buying a mining contract from the cloud.
