For the past decade, the Libyan society has been a den of terrorist attacks and internal violence. This has caused the lives of several innocent Libyan citizens. The terrorists have engaged in several crimes against humanity, ranging from rape, murder as well as torture of innocent people.

Between 2015 and 2016, the Libyan city of Sirte has been a strong for ISIL and it's activities have accounted for several atrocities, most especially, mass murder. The ISIL had been in control of the city immediately after the NATO-backed crisis in 2011.

Although in 2016, the US in an alliance with the United Nations forces pushed the ISIL out of the city. Nevertheless, there has been investigations ongoing on to see the weight of crimes committed by the ISIL in the Sabaa area of Sirte.

Mass graves have been found across Libya over the years amid the country’s instability. In October, officials said they found 42 bodies in a mass grave at a school site in Sirte.

Libyan authorities say they have discovered 18 bodies buried in a mass grave in the coastal city of Sirte, a former stronghold of the ISIL (ISIS) armed group in central Libya.

The bodies were unburied in the Sabaa area of Sirte and were taken to a local hospital, the Missing Persons Authority said in a statement on Sunday.

This is a clear indication that the presence of ISIL in Sirte had caused the people several lives and families have been advise to identify the bodies after the bones of the deceased were used to identify the individuals.
