The continuous advancement in technology, especially in the areas of computers, has called for serious attention across the board. As it stands, there's no sector or organization that doesn't need a computer. Gone are the days when analog permeated everywhere. On a light note, I was told by some groups of friends that even the witch doctors make use of computers presently to carry out their operations. Initially, the computer was seen as an instrument of massive destruction and a strategy of a white man to whisk Africans away while other mystical things existed amongst some religious body. In all, this computer has significantly and undoubtedly done more good to all sectors.

When I saw the theme for this discussion, I was like, what would I do to talk about this topic? To what extent do I know computers to start talking about coding and programming? These were two words that sounded very complicated and complex when I was coming up in my knowledge of computers. I must say that it's a great opportunity again for me to share my thoughts on the subject matter for the last edition. Let me attempt to explain what the two basic words mean. Coding and programming simply refer to the ways of writing , designing, and sustaining codes. Code also entails sets of instructions that the computer understands. There are languages used in programming, like Java, Python, and many others, to give commands to the computer to solve problems.

Making coding and programming compulsory in schools, there are certain factors that can't be compromised; however, it's very important for one to note the importance of coding and programming. They are very important skills in the world today, which propel individuals to be creative and innovative. Coding and programming will enhance critical thinking from students and how to logically connect concepts. It would prepare students for the opportunity that lies ahead with huge problem-solving skills to analyze data. This is also important because students will be exposed to science and engineering.Schools that offer coding and programming would have leverage over others in terms of technological advancement and will lure other students that offer it. This will really boost the name of such a school. Like what normally happens in my area, children like any school that has attractive things like a good school bus and a fenced and beautified school with a good learning environment. 

Many external exams are transitioning to computer-based exams, such as WAEC and many others. The knowledge of coding and programming will go a long way to build sufficient capacity amongst children for further exams. One of the secrets of effective learning strategies in the present world is engagement. Coding and programming will help students to be engaged in discovering new things.

The attempt to make coding and programming compulsory in schools should be dependent on certain factors. Does the school have any needs? Do they have a computer that will serve the students? Before making any decision, there should be checks and balances first. Making it compulsory is good; however, it should be properly weighed whether such schools have the capacity to handle it. In achieving this, expenses will be made. 

Recently I attended a parents meeting with the management of a school. They shared how they intend to switch from analog to digital, but the challenge remains: things must be bought. Would every school be able to afford it? Are there enough specialized teachers to handle this?? Something can still be done.

Coding and programming is good but school should access themselves to ascertain the level of their readiness. Every individual should be encouraged on the advantages so that they could make good choice. Is better you learn the skill early to avoid late rush hour.
