Multi-dimensional lightpainter - lens swapping with camera rotation photography
I'm a big fan of swapping lenses during an exposure and also camera rotation on the lens axis. This shot was taken inside a cave under the Peak District in Derbyshire:

To make this image, I used two lenses during the exposure. First I shot the larger silhouette with a Sony 16-35mm lens making sure to leave plenty of dark space in the frame:

Then I swapped lenses and used a camera rotation device to shoot the second part of the image:

Once happy with both elements, I set about making the image in one photographic exposure. I start with the larger silhouette then swap lenses in complete darkness so as not to expose the image sensor while the lens is off the camera. I then shoot with the second lens for the three smaller silhouettes. In this case some of the light spilling on the 2nd part appeared in the first part of the frame adding some great texture.

And one final note; I used a single flashgun with a black card over the strobe so I could use two colour gels on the same flash unit. Note to self, must do this again!

About me: I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
