# Non-gamers should give VR a chance There are many misconceptions about today's virtual reality, the biggest one being how it's supposedly tailored for gaming. This is not true at all. VR gadgets, applications and experiences often extend into the work environment, facilitating training experiences and demonstrations. Social apps are very popular, but I think the artistic and relaxing opportunities take the cake. If you can afford a VR headset, you should try non-action applications like the one @junkfeather uses. Watch the video from his [latest post](https://peakd.com/hive-158694/@junkfeathers/qfspofly), you'll understand immediately. Nothing quite like doing whatever you want in a private space without any "art critics (everyone)" judging you. In fact, go to his post right now if you want to understand how VR is also therapy. --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWLPw4RE9Ig # Going social Watch the official trailer for [VRChat](https://store.steampowered.com/app/438100/VRChat/) above! It is another non-gaming application. You meet new people and express yourself. There are many little things you can do in it besides talking, like playing board games or a softened up version of some sports. Getting together online is specially cool when the pandemic is messing our heads up. --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUhJtEy9KLc # Home cinema Many movies tailored for VR let you experience the seventh art in a completely new way, like the video above from [VideoFeedTV](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp5q_CLwkjaSwia1aaU2NSQ) *tries* to demonstrate. Sometimes you get to look around, searching for hidden plot answers, other times you interact with what's happening directly, changing the course of the story entirely. If you miss traveling, there are simpler visual experiences, letting you cool off in a god-forsaken island, on a mountain top, or even in a different planet. --- # My two cents, your two cents Having bought the first prototype of the Oculus Rift, I've had my share of experiences with it. Back then, VR was at a really early stage, so everything was much more limited. But damn, scary games were never so terrifying! I sold it after a few months because motion sickness was getting to me, but I've tested new prototypes in fairs and geeky promotion events. Their tech is much better, since I have no problem with virtual motion anymore. Have you had any experience with VR? If you haven't, doesn't it make you feel curious? It's crazy expensive, but I really want to get it again at some point. Specially for non-gaming, although I've tested some very compelling titles, so VR gaming is not off the table either. --- *All video sources are cited within the article.*
