0.000 HBDMixed Seed Patch Day 14: The week after sowing
It's been two weeks since I begin preparing these patches and one from the day that the seeds were placed on the soil. Thanks to the heavy rains all week the first sprouts have quickly taken place and that means it's time to share with you the progress till the present moment ๐ The patches are quickly greening up and it's a pretty sight, despite not knowing what is actually growing. Though there are a few that a quite easy to tell. For example, these are all from the brassica family. All brassica sprouts look like four leaf clovers. Among the seeds there were the following brassicas: kale, arugula, red mustard, and romanesco brocolis. The sprouts that have the purplish colors are clearly red mustard, no doubt about it. The others are probably arugula since it is the quickest one to develop. I'm pretty sure this is a swiss chard but time will tell. As for these little friends, I have no idea what they are and they have sprouted in abundance so I'm excited to see how they develop. If you know what plant these sprouts belong to, please let me know in the comments. There are some dense conglomerations here and there and they just look stunning under this rain. I'm going to be a little experimental here and not immediately assume that I must thin them. Maybe I'll just take care of them by removing the sick ones. After all, I think when you have places with dense growth it's a great chance to eat a lot of microgreens. For example, these come from a few crowded patches of red mustard, lettuce and radishes (I don't sow radish as much for the root as I do for the leaves and seedpods that are edible as well): Unfortunately some critter found out about the beans and had a feast. Let's hope some of them make it. ### Some more pics just for the beauty of it: I guess from now on I'll probably be posting about this only once a week as it's not going to change much from here to tomorrow ๐ It's funny for me because when I begin gardening I used to check the plants every day hoping to see some kind of progress and feel very anxious about the whole affair. With time I realized that forgetting a bit about them can actually be a good thing and that they don't really need you to do their plant stuff. --- I was hoping to finish and be able to post my little hot tent for warmth demanding plants but I think it will have to wait for a couple of days since tomorrow I need to go to town to get some supplies, as my shelves are nearly empty. For now I'll leave you with a sneak peak of what's happening there: It doesn't look like much, but it has been a true DIY conundrum and you'll soon know why. Hope you enjoyed the post and thank you very much for tuning in. Happy gardening, and a great week.
