Have you heard of water soluble basting thread? I recently used this in a marathon session of installing zippers in dresses for the wedding party. Here's how it works.

Wind a bobbin with the soluble basting thread. Baste the zipper opening closed. Sew the zipper in **after** changing back to regular thread in the bobbin. Spray the basted seam with water to dissolve the bobbin thread and pull off the top basting thread.

This simple product saves time picking out regular basting with a seam ripper. Of course, it should not be used on fabrics that are not washable.
