Gold is the traditional store of value.  The precious metal dates back thousands of years and is the sign of wealth.  In the age of fiat currency, the use of it is lessened.  This does not mean the desire to own it has diminished.

At the top of the list are central banks.  While they issue out fiat, it appears they do not keep their wealth in this.  Instead, they turn their fiat currencies into gold, something that holds its value.

This is part of the scheme by the bankers.  They issue out fiat which they keep inflating by printing more money which allows them to buy real world assets.  They also achieve this end by loaning the money out, with interest, which is not covered by the fiat printed.  Thus we see a situation where the amount of debt is not covered by the amount of fiat created.

Here is where we see things such as foreclosure on real estate.  Made up fiat turned into real world assets.

Gold follows a similar pattern.  Since it is valued, countries and central banks are buyers.  The United States is the largest owner along with Germany and the IMF.  

Here is a list of the countries that have the biggest gold holdings.  Russia and China are rapidly move up the ranks.
