0.000 HBDA Papio and something I have no idea what it is - Yesterday afternoon on Oahu Hawaii
The weather looked like it was going to be bad for the weekend. After work it was cloudy, windy, and chilly (for Hawaii). I figured what the heck I will chance it. I head out to the west side of Oahu and figured I had a couple hours. I had my gear pre-rigged from the morning so I just went to the rocks, threw on a plastic pink curly tail, and started whipping. There was no one around and after about 20 minutes I got a hit. It was going side to side and right away I knew it was a Papio. The Papio started swimming right in to the shore. Very unusual. I guess it was trying to cut me off in the rocks. It tired quickly and I brought it in. I kept walking the coast and nothing much happened. I started walk back to my car whipping the coast and bang another hit. Same action side to side. Another Papio I thought. This fish was fighting a lot harder making some runs straight out. This fight was much harder and went on for a while. Finally I gained ground and could see color. I thought what the heck is that. I really thought I was going to get cut off as the fish was darting back and forth. I was real careful because I felt my line had to be nicked up from the coral. After a few more minutes I was able to get it to the shore. I have no idea what it is. I never caught a fish like this before. It looks like a mackerel . I threw it in the color and headed home. I was a great Friday afternoon. If you know what the fish is please let me know.
