Steemit Open Mic Week 74 - Original Composition: In The Desert Wild
I have been running around steemit pretending to be a poet because I like writing things that rhyme. Truth is, I consider myself more of a songwriter because there is almost always a tune in my head as I write the words. The nice thing about playing "poet" is I do not have to bother with trying to figure out what chords to play!

The chance to be a poet has worked out well, as I can really only write songs when I am alone. I sing them to myself over and over until I like my melody, then go hammer out chords for hours and hours... it is not pleasant and I just can't do it when there is anyone else around. I got sort of used to a lot of alone time, then life changed and the past few years I have had almost none. This week, and we don't know for how long, our roommate is not here. She has gone to care for a terminal friend. Sad as it is, it gave me enough alone time that I actually did something I have not done in years; I finished my "poem" and now it is a song. And this time, I am taking the whole plunge and singing it and posting it on the blockchain...

I want to thank @luzcypher and @pfunk for this tremendous gift to steemit's musicians. I entered once or twice before, but I don't really consider myself a musician any more than I really think I am a poet... I just like to do stuff. :) The flood of people talking about their experiences with Open Mic this past week finally got to me, so here I am. I may not be talented or even very skilled, but there IS music in my soul and I DO want to share it. Thank you to ALL the wonderful people who are part of Open Mic for giving me a safe and fun platform to do so!

Neon signs and parking lots, just getting by takes all I've got
I walk the streets, people everywhere, a look in their eye like no one's there.
A city's cold in a funny way, sometimes I have to run away

Cuz it has been a while since I skinny dipped under the moon
And let my inner child run free where the river's flowing' through,
Under a starry sky, just my lover and I, in the desert wild.

Hustle through another day, trying to survive, no time to pray
Scurry to my grave to stressed to see all the gifts that were meant for me
There's a better way, a way I know, I might just have to go.

And it has been a while since I skiiny dipped under the moon
And let my inner child run free where the river's flowing through,
Under a starry sky, just my lover and I, in the desert wild.

Here we are, just you and I, beside the river, the moon is high
It's been too long since we did this, allowed ourselves to yield to bliss.
Lets just stay away, leave the rats behind, they'll keep racing, but we will find

Time to spend while skinny dipping under the moon
And letting our inner child run free where the river's flowing through,
Under the starry sky, just my lover and I, in the desert wild.
Under the starry sky, just my lover and I, in the desert wild.
