I moved to a place infested by fleas when I was 20. It was my first apartment ever. I got a job as the Assistant Manager of an apartment complex and this apartment was part of the deal. 

I had to open doors for people that forgot their keys or lost them in the night. And I was just generally available to help anyone that needed help. 

My apartment number was listed on the office door, so whenever the office was closed I got all kinds of strangers at my door. Next door to me lived two giant highway patrolmen, who told me to knock when anything was too much for me to handle. So I woke them up at least once a week when drunks or crazy people showed up to scare me.

When I first moved into this place, I all of the sudden had all kinds of bug bites. Later, when sitting on the carpet, I noticed some bugs – a lot of bugs – jumping up in the air higher than my head. It was like a festival of bug jumping. 

The manager told me they were fleas and she would need to fumigate. We had to do that three times in a week to finally get rid of them. Apparently the last Assistant Manager had a few cats.
