<div class="text-justify">On these days it's pretty hard to avoid thinking of the conflict going on in Ukraine and focusing on our routine, and so before starting writing part two of my trip experience in Umbria, I just want to express my spiritual closeness to all who are in pain, suffering from the war atrocity or have families and friends in danger. All my praying goes to you all, hoping that all this will end soon and a real period of peace will finally come to stay.

Last week I started to tell you my December experience in Umbria and today I would like to finish it by telling you something more about the natural views and urban gems of this Italian region. In case you missed it, here's <a href="https://peakd.com/hive-194913/@flewsplash/discovering-umbria-part-one-eng-ita">Discovery Umbria - part one</a> where I wrote about Spoleto, Assisi, and our first night in Foligno.

Today I will continue the story of our the exploration experience @castles and I had in Umbria.</div>

<h2>Day 2</h2>

<div class="text-justify">We had a super good and abundant breakfast at our beautiful hotel and we literally covered up the table with the remaining of our meal... it was such a mess! If there is one thing I love about sleeping at b&b or hotels is the buffet at breakfast, it's just the best wake-up ever! Here's a pic of our table after the breakfast 😅</div>

<div class="tex-justify">We were ready to burn the plenty of calories we had by going on exploration in the mountains nearby Foligno. My friend suggested us to take the way of a pretty long but easy hiking, included in the <a href="https://www.montagneaperte.it/itinerarieluoghi/sassovivo-pettino/">"Sentieri di Mezzo"</a>. We reached the beginning of the path by car and we started off from Sassovivo Abbey, walking towards Pettino. The whole hiking path was supposed to be more than 21 km but since we also wanted to spend some time just relaxing, we walked until we wanted to and then we came back. Here I share with you some of the views you will enjoy by hiking that path.</div>

<div class="text-justify">Not far from the beginning of the path, there is a nativity scene made of iron plaques, very suggestive and minimal especially because it is, as you can see from this pictures, enclosed into a circular bricks structure, and all of that was just places in the middle of the woods: very fascinating to me!</div>

<div class="text-justify">Although very long, the Sassovivo hiking is pretty easy and good for families with kids. Indeed, on our way we met some people with their dog and some families with their kids, because locals consider this path just like a walk in the park, and so it is pretty much. We were good with the whether too, because it was sunny and there was no sign of fresh snow on the path, however the temperature was a little cold, and especially when we were heading back to our car, a strong wind hit us making it more difficult to walk with no struggle.</div>

<div class="text-justify">Sassovivo abbey was visible among the trees and plants of the woods on the path, however when we headed back by car towards the hotel, we stopped at the abbey to visit it and we unfortunately found it closed. It was such a pain because I really wanted to visit it as I love medieval abbeys and really wanted to take some cool pictures from inside the church. I had to settle for just the view of the exterior, not bad at all anyway!</div>

<div class="text-justify">We rested a lot at the hotel which offered us a great spectacle for the eyes when it was sunset time. We definitely picked a magnificent hotel because: it was located in such a perfect spot from which you could enjoy the valley of Foligno in all its beauty while also being hit by the sunshine in front of you, and you could not but being just overwhelmed by the natural landscape greatness. <h2>Day 3</h2>

<div class="text-justify">The third day was very relaxed and typically Italian as @castles and I were invited at Elisabetta's mom's place to have lunch together. You should know that Italian lunches can last hours and hours with so many delicious dishes of all kinds. We love eating so for us that was not a problem at all, also because we really had nothing special planned to do afterwards; indeed, we were only planning to go see Perugia and then coming back home to Rome after sunset. Unfortunately, we have no pictures of all the yummy food we had that afternoon!

I share here some pictures taken of the view of and over Perugia; you can see some snowy mountains of the Perugia area and an enchanting full moon hanging over them... absolutely lovely! The town is such one of those Italian gems you should visit once in your life. </div>

<div class="text-justify">Perugia is famous for being the city of chocolate, however it is impossible not to eat well even if you pick salty food! Indeed, salami and hams are special in every corner of the town... but there is one place you want to try if you are a lover of hams, salami and cheese: <a href="https://www.laprosciutteria.com/mangiare-e-bere/">La Prosciutteria</a>!</div>

<div class="text-justify">The atmosphere of Christmas was vivid and pleasant, there were more people than expected, since the previous days we almost met nobody in the other cities! I especially love the lights of the city at sunset time, the golden hour had a sort of magical feature which enlightened the whole valley around Perugia. I hope the next pictures of the sunset will provide you with a little bit of the magic we lived when we were walking around.</div>

<h2>Giorno 2</h2>

<div class="text-justify">Abbiamo fatto una colazione super buona e abbondante nel nostro bellissimo hotel e abbiamo letteralmente coperto il tavolo con le rimanenze del nostro pasto... è stato un vero macello! Se c'è una cosa che amo del dormire in b&b o in hotel è il buffet a colazione, è semplicemente il miglior risveglio di sempre! Ecco una foto della nostra tavola dopo la colazione 😅</div>

<div class="tex-justify">Eravamo pronti a bruciare le tante calorie che avevamo ingerito andando in esplorazione sulle montagne vicino a Foligno. Una mia amica ci ha suggerito di intraprendere la via di un'escursione abbastanza lunga ma facile, inserita nei <a href="https://www.montagneaperte.it/itinerarieluoghi/sassovivo-pettino/">"Sentieri di Mezzo"</a>. Abbiamo raggiunto l'inizio del sentiero in macchina e siamo partiti dall'Abbazia di Sassovivo, incamminandoci verso Pettino. L'intero sentiero doveva essere più di 21 km, ma poiché anche noi volevamo trascorrere un po' di tempo rilassandoci, abbiamo camminato fino a quando volevamo e poi siamo tornati indietro. Qui condivido con voi alcuni dei panorami di cui godrete percorrendo quel sentiero.</div>

<div class="text-justify">Non lontano dall'inizio del sentiero c'è un presepe fatto di targhe di ferro, molto suggestivo e minimale soprattutto perché è, come potete vedere da queste immagini, racchiuso in una struttura circolare in mattoni, e tutto questo era posizionato in mezzo al bosco: l'ho trovato molto affascinante e suggestivo!</div>

<div class="text-justify">Sebbene sia molto lungo, il trekking di Sassovivo è abbastanza facile e adatto a famiglie con bambini. In effetti, durante il nostro viaggio abbiamo incontrato alcune persone con il cane a passeggio e alcune famiglie con i loro bambini, perché la gente del posto considera questo percorso proprio come una passeggiata nel parco, e di fatto bene o male lo è. Siamo stati fortunati anche con il tempo, perché c'era il sole e non c'era traccia di neve fresca sul sentiero, tuttavia la temperatura era un po' fredda, e soprattutto quando stavamo tornando alla nostra macchina ci ha investito un forte vento rendendoci più difficile camminare senza fatica.</div>

<div class="text-justify">L'abbazia di Sassovivo era visibile tra gli alberi e le piante dei boschi sul sentiero, tuttavia quando siamo tornati in macchina verso l'hotel ci siamo fermati all'abbazia per visitarla e purtroppo l'abbiamo trovata chiusa. È stato un vero peccato perché volevo davvero visitarla visto il mio amore per le abbazie medievali e volevo davvero scattare delle belle foto dall'interno della chiesa. Mi sono dovuta accontentare solo della vista dell'esterno, niente male comunque!</div>

<div class="text-justify">Ci siamo riposati molto in hotel che ci ha offerto un grande spettacolo per gli occhi quando era l'ora del tramonto. Abbiamo sicuramente scelto un magnifico hotel perché era situato in un punto così perfetto da cui si poteva godere della valle di Foligno in tutta la sua bellezza pur essendo baciati dal sole davanti a noi, e non si poteva che essere travolti dalla naturale grandezza del paesaggio. Spero che questa sequenza di scatti fatti dalla nostra camera d'albergo vi piaccia.</div>

<h2>Giorno 3</h2>

<div class="text-justify">Il terzo giorno è stato molto rilassato e tipicamente italiano poiché @castles ed io siamo stati invitati a casa della mamma di Elisabetta, la mi amica, per pranzare insieme. Dovete sapere che i pranzi italiani possono durare ore e ore con tanti piatti sfiziosi di ogni tipo. Adoriamo mangiare, quindi per noi non è stato affatto un problema, anche perché non avevamo davvero niente di speciale da fare dopo; in effetti, stavamo solo programmando di andare a vedere Perugia e poi tornare a casa a Roma dopo il tramonto. Sfortunatamente, non abbiamo foto di tutto il cibo delizioso che abbiamo mangiato a pranzo quel giorno!

Condivido qui alcune foto scattate di Perugia e dalla veduta della valle attorno alla città; si possono vedere alcune montagne innevate del perugino e un'incantevole luna piena che sembra appesa sopra di esse... assolutamente incantevole! La città è una di quelle gemme italiane che dovreste visitare almeno una volta nella vita. </div>

<div class="text-justify">L'atmosfera del Natale era vivida e piacevole, c'era più gente del previsto, dato che i giorni precedenti non abbiamo incontrato quasi nessuno nelle altre città! Amavo particolarmente le luci della città al tramonto, l'ora d'oro aveva una sorta di caratteristica magica che illuminava l'intera vallata intorno a Perugia. Spero che le prossime foto del tramonto vi forniscano un po' della magia che abbiamo vissuto quando stavamo passeggiando per la città.</div>
