One of my many hobbies is poetry. This is one I put together after a day of hiking. Still Water Lilly She loves the mud. The chocolate syrup of gritty ooze That she rose from and Squishes between her rooted toes. Gripping deep into it, she anchors herself in the dirty beautiful sediment that soils all else. She thrives in it, pulling every tasty bit from it That her green skin can extract. She loves the water, The milky algae bath Of stagnant, healing balm. It caresses her skin. Holding her. Feeding her. Giving her the strength to stand Since before ancient wordsmiths Knew what to call her. She loves the air, The sweet stench of swamp breezes Across her floating leaves. Coloring her chlorophytic complexion To a richness surpassing emeralds. It emboldens her to reach And grasp at the clouds, Not caring if she'll ever reach them. Knowing that each day there will be A new sky to embrace. She loves the sun, The Divine fire that was with her In the beginning. And will be with her In the end. Enflaming her white mane of petals With beauty's burning spicy brilliance, The tender kiss of God Given to a creation of mud, water and air.
