The landscape of how NBA basketball is played has changed immensely over the last 25 years, gone are the days of teams like the Bad Boy Pistons ruling the world with a physical tough uncompromising style of Basketball, carried out by a team of defensive stoppers, re-bounders and all round bullies, in this day and age the 3 point shot rules the NBA. People forget how good someone like Dennis Rodman was he could guard the oppositions point guard, bang with Shaq inside, grab 17 rebounds a game, block shots, run the court on offense, diver for loose balls, score on tip backs if needed and generally be all over the court, but can you shoot 3s? that would be the questioned asked by todays executives.

The game started to change when the League started to crack down on physical play and hand checking was also outlawed in the 90s, this made offense so much easier and resulted in scoring numbers going up all across the League. Teams began to put less of a priority on interior defense and the role of the big man who had been the focal point of basketball for decades started to change, someone like Shaq who didnt shoot the jumper much would not be considered as valuable in todays NBA even though he is one of the greatest players of all time.

Teams in todays NBA  hate shooting the mid range jump shot, will pass up open dunks or lay ups for a 3 point shot in open transition, defense is a lot less physical, more fouls are called, this years probable league MVP James Harden plays no D at all, its an interesting world of basketball we live in, but hey its the most popular it has ever been so something must be right about it!
