0.000 HBDBattle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge! RULESET: What Doesn't Kill You
Hello once again, **Splinterfam** and fellow **Hivers** roaming our **Hive Sphere**. It is that time once again where I will be discussing one of the rulesets for our **Weekly Challenge**. I am still here in Port of Matadi, South Africa so I still have the chance to participate in it since internet coverage is good. I’m hoping once again that you may give a bit of time reading this [entry](https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_f94df3cb8d75f7f4b9c322361fc3a89f&ref=jc3789). My thanks in advance. The featured ruleset of the week is **What Doesn’t Kill You**. We will be discussing below what this ruleset below and what one of many other abilities is best paired with it. Please keep on reading…

# **RULSET, MANA CAP AND SPLINTERS** 3

All units gain the Enrage ability which multiplies their speed and melee attack by 1.5x rounded up. The attack multiplier only affects melee units. Units with Inspire will increase your melee attack; Demoralize will decrease your opponent's melee attack. # **LINE-UP** # [](https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_f94df3cb8d75f7f4b9c322361fc3a89f&ref=jc3789)Kindly click the image to watch the battle ## **Possibilus the Wise** ##

I opted to use this monster to take advantage of **Coastal Sentry’s** ability: **Doublestrike**. **Coastal Sentry** will be granted the **Reach** ability which will enable it to hit the enemy’s **Tank** while it’s still in the second slot, hitting twice every turn. Also, this summoner will grant all ally monsters with additional 2units of health point. Aside from that, it will also grant my melee monster the ability to **Trample** wherein it will immediately attacked the next monster adjacent to its target in the event that it successfully killed the target. ## **Venari Marksrat** ##

I used this monster in the foremost slot in order to buff my main **Tank’s** stats. Sacrificing this monster will activate its ability: **Martyr** which will immediately increase all the stats attached to my **Tank** such as the attack, speed, armor and health point stats. ## **Coastal Sentry** ##

I preferred to use **Coastal Sentry** as my **Tank** because I wanted to take advantage of the existing ruleset. Utilizing it to my advantage means I can get to attack the enemy with its **Double-Strike ability each round. With the buffed stats coming from **Venari Marksrat’s** ability **Martyr** and effect of the ruleset: **What Doesn’t Kill You**, this monster will be **Enraged** the moment if suffers any injury in its health point no matter how big or small the said injury is. ## **Venari Wavesmith** ##

I used this monster for added defense to my ally monsters. Its ability: **Protect** will give my monsters 2units of shield so it’s a great addition to my line-up. With the right amount of shield, the enemy’s attack can be negated long enough before they can directly hit my monster’s health points… provided the enemy chooses to use **melee** and **range** attack type monsters. The opponent choosing a **melee attack type monsters** is highly likely considering the ruleset given in this battle. **Protect** is given more importance in this case. Also, thinking that the opponent might really opt to use **melee attack type monsters**, it is within reason that they might come with shields so me opting to mix my line-up with some **magic attack type monsters** will greatly benefit me as my **magic attack type monsters** can directly hit their health point rendering their shields useless. ## **River Hellondale** ##

I planned to make full use of **Venari Marksrat** **Martyr** ability so including this monster in the line-up will make that plan a possibility. Once my monster in the foremost slot dies, this monster’s ability: **Resurrect** will bring it back to the battlefield, right where it died. In doing so, **Venari Marksrat** will still be the main target of the enemy monster and when it dies again its **Martyr** ability will have buffed my main **Tank** for the second time further increasing the attacking and speed stats. My main **Tank** would have gained immense fighting ability before it occupies its rightful foremost slot. ## **Halfling Alchemist** ##

Considering the given ruleset where **melee attack type monsters** are buffed when their health point is damaged, I included this monster in my line up in hope that it can negate the buffed attacking stats of the enemy monsters through its **Halving** ability where each time this Monster hits a target, the target's attack is cut in half (rounded down). The **Protect** given to it by **Venari** Wavesmith and the **sacrificial pawn Torrent Fiend** behind it will enable it or allow it to cause some damage first before it is hit and then dies due to its low health. ## **Torrent Fiend** ##

I placed this monster in the backend slot to serve as a **sacrificial pawn** to my more important monster. This monster, being in the back, will receive the incoming attacks from enemy **Sneak** attack type monsters. It is shielded or protected by **Venari Wavesmith** so it should be able to endure some attacks before it leaves the battle.

# **[The battle](https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_f94df3cb8d75f7f4b9c322361fc3a89f&ref=jc3789)** # As I suspected, the opponent battle mage chose **melee attack type monster**. My decision to include **Protect** and use **magic attackers** is correct. My chance at victory just increased a great deal. As intended, both the monsters from my foremost slot and backend slot received a barrage of attacks from the enemy being the one with faster monsters. At the middle of the first round **Venari Marksrat** received its first death from an attack by **Deeplurker**, an **Opportunity** type monster. It is this time when my Coastal Sentry** received its first stat buffs. All of its stats increased by 1 unit. You can see how the early demise of **Venari Marksrat** greatly worked in my favor. After a short while, **River Hellondale’s** ability **Resurrect** immediately activated bringing the dead **Venari Marksrat** to life. He is once again the center of successive barrage which dealt him its second death in this game and once again buffed my **Coastal Sentry** for the second time. You can see how immense the stats of **Coastal Sentry** at this point is. The ruleset has not yet taken effect at this point since it still has high amount of armor. Before the current round ended, you can see that the health point of the enemy’s **Tank** is damaged which made the ruleset take effect in the enemy’s **Tank**. But it’s a short-lived effect as my **Halfling Alchemist** then hits it and brought its buffed attack down to its base stats. This scenario proved that choosing and including **Halfling Alchemist** in this battle is also a great decision. This monster is one of the best counter for those monsters that are **Enraged**. The first round ended with the enemy's **Tank** attack in de-buffed condition. The following rounds is a smooth journey until we reached this state where the enemy monsters successfully removed my **Tank's** armor and damaged its health point in round 4. Below you can see the devastating power of **Coastal Sentry** reached its peak in the battle. Given the right circumstances, its high attacking power paired with its **Doublestrike** can immediately kill its poor target. Unfortunately, the ruleset had only taken effect on my **Tank** at the later stage of the battle thus, it is unable to show you its full potential in its **Enraged** state. The opponent mage tried to take advantage of the ruleset by choosing pure **melee attackers**. The monsters attacks were scattered while my monsters focus only on what is in the front slot. This gave me the easy victory I needed in this battle It would have been more dramatic should the opponent mage chosen at least one magic attacker in its line-up. This battle clearly belongs to me as the victor. The line-up paired with the correct ability to support each other on the field proved deadly to the enemy.

That is all for this week’s challenge folks.
