Haunted Lidtke Mill in Lime Springs, Iowa
It's hard to believe that two years have already passed since I found myself in that distant place, a place that now echoes with a mix of cherished and painful memories. It was a journey that feels like a lifetime ago, yet its impact still lingers heavily on my heart.

During that short but significant time, I experienced the profound loss of my mother to melanoma. Her courageous battle left a void that continues to ache deeply. The world shifted dramatically the day she passed, and I've been navigating the complexities of grief ever since.

Now, I find myself witnessing a different struggle as my friend battles myeloma. The darkness of illness surrounding her brings back memories of my mother's fight and reminds me of how interconnected our lives are, especially given the added layer of her being married to my ex-husband. It's a constant reminder of a shared past that seems inescapable.

So much has changed since those photos were taken during that visit. Life has taken unexpected twists and turns, and at times, it feels like a heavy burden to carry the weight of so much change and loss.

The feelings that accompany this journey are complex. I often find myself longing for the joy of those captured moments, while also grappling with the painful realities that have unfolded since.

Through it all, I realize that I am not alone in this struggle. Many of us carry the weight of intertwined stories of love, loss, and the resilience to keep moving forward. It's a journey marked by both ups and downs, and while the past may haunt us, it also serves as a reminder to cherish the fleeting beauty of the present.

In this ever changing landscape of life, let us not forget the faces and places that have shaped us, and may we find comfort in sharing our stories with one another

This square building hanging there by just some nails and a board- is a toilet room that falls into the river. ;0
