If you have never heard of or used ghee you are in for a real treat. Ghee is clarified butter, this means that the butter has been melted and simmered and then the residue has been removed. What is left is a pure clear fat without any milk in it at all. This means that it doesn’t have to be refrigerated, it can last for months or even years without being refrigerated. This is why it was popular before there was refrigeration.
Ghee has a different and unique taste and smell that is different than butter but can be used in much the same way. Because it is a pure fat, you don’t need to use as much as you do butter. When eaten in moderation ghee can provide your body with essential nutrients that you can’t get from butter, it actually has the ability to protect your gastrointestinal system. Other benefits include reducing inflammation in joints, balance cholesterol levels, eliminates certain allergy concerns, improving your eye health, protection from some chronic disease, strengthen your immune system and prevent certain types of cancer.
Although ghee is comprised mostly of fats, it also contains high levels of vitamins A, D, and E all amazing for your skin. Omega 3’s (monounsaturated healthy fats) are also found in ghee, along with CLA and butyric acid.
Ghee contains medium chain fatty acids which are processed in the liver and are used for energy. They do not turn into fat or contribute to weight gain which means that athletes can use ghee to supply that burst of energy they just may need in an important event.
Even though ghee comes from butter it has no milk so those who are lactose intolerant can enjoy and eat it. Because omega-3 fatty acids are good for heart health and actually decrease the levels of unhealthy cholesterol and ghee, because of its rich variety in fats can do just that.

Ghee also possesses one of the most beneficial short chain fatty acids that your body needs, butyric acid. This has been shown to actually decrease inflammation in parts of the body especially in the gastrointestinal tract and is even recommended for those with ulcerative colitis.
Ghee is full of antioxidants which helps to eliminate free radicals form the body. When you add CLA with butyric acid and the power of vitamin A found in ghee you have an anti-cancer powerhouse that could help reduce oxidative stress in your body.
The vitamin A levels in ghee also help in eye health by preventing macular degeneration and the development of of cataracts. But one of the most important elements in ghee is butyric acid. This has been known to stimulate the production of T-cells, these are the cells of the immune system supercharging them to keep you well.
Ghee is an excellent choice but it is full of fat so moderation is the key. You need to try it. You will love the taste, and the benefits.
