Very often, teachers and psychologists discovered that the roots of avoidance are due to fear and guilt. <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-776" src="http://fun2learn.vornix.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/guilt.jpg" alt="" width="230" height="220" /><br/> <a href="https://pixabay.com/en/shame-disgraceful-evil-worthless-927085/">Image Source</a> Pupils and adults, who have hidden fear and guilt, would choose to avoid to escape due their negative emotions. The fight-or-flight response is naturally activated and most would choose the easy way out of their emotions by moving away rather than facing their fears. <img class="alignnone size-medium" src="http://fun2learn.vornix.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Fearful.png" width="276" height="183" /><br/> <a href="https://www.maxpixel.net/Face-Human-Eyes-Frightened-Person-Girl-Child-1205140">Image Source</a> This short article will discuss about a few possible triggers for avoidance and possible ways to overcome them. There is really no single solution as it depends on the courage of individuals and everyone can respond differently. <b>Failures leading to avoidance</b> I had a pupil with learning difficulty since he was young. After facing numerous failures in his examinations, he had come to the point of avoidance in facing the subjects by not attempting even when the class teacher was going through the answers for corrections. <img class="alignnone size-medium" src="http://fun2learn.vornix.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Failure.jpg" width="275" height="183" /><br/> <a href="https://pixabay.com/en/loser-failure-finger-suggest-board-3096225/">Image Source</a> I had spoken to him and found out that he felt useless in learning and he had given up. His past failures had demoralised him so much that he was unable to see success in whatever he did. <img class="alignnone size-medium" src="https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeJ6moq9FTVv6ZALacbW4VbP4fDMqutQHhqe6QBk3n2S3/Depression.png" width="275" height="183" /><br/> <a href="https://www.pexels.com/photo/black-and-white-man-young-lonely-48566/">Image Source</a> The crucial intervention was to help him to gain confidence through small steps of success. I provided him intentional personal guidance when his other classmates were doing their work. Through guidance, he was able to complete the required work to find little successes that did motivate him to try and attempt the questions. <img class="alignnone size-medium" src="http://fun2learn.vornix.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Teacher-helps.jpg" width="259" height="194" /><br/> <a href="https://pixnio.com/people/teacher-works-with-a-remedial-student-at-the-st-margarets-human-resource-center-in-kingston">Image Source</a> Avoidance can be a result of negative past experience so when one finds success in the area that he fails in the past, the avoidance can be removed naturally. <b>A debt to pay</b> When a child or an adult owes someone money or committed a misdeed leading to guilt, it is hard to face the debtor. As a result, the guilt leading to fear of facing the debtor becomes a natural reaction. <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-777" src="http://fun2learn.vornix.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/peeking-through.png" alt="" width="276" height="183" /><br/> <a href="https://pxhere.com/en/photo/636890">Image Source</a> In such situation, there is really no fast solution as it really depends on the severity of the debt or misdeed. The fact is many in this situation is going through psychological stress that can even lead to health issues. If it is financial debt, the affected person can seek ways to clear his debt through instalment or debt consolidation company. <img class="alignnone size-medium" src="http://fun2learn.vornix.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/money-ask.png" width="183" height="276" /><br/> <a href="https://pixabay.com/en/salesman-salesperson-sales-person-3337462/">Image Source</a> Once the debt is cleared, the anxiety or avoidance can be removed naturally. The hardest is the misdeed done that creates a guilt. The affected person may need psychological intervention. <img class="alignnone size-medium" src="https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmdahGqnRu2uLJFbbB8KdUXkBotrLASE5LP1FwQAgn7ihG/Active%20listener.jpg" width="469" height="320" /><br/> <a href="https://pixabay.com/en/discussion-restaurant-business-2822066/">Image Source</a> Through professional help, he may gain the courage to seek for forgiveness for himself as well as from the other party. <b>Fear of unknown </b> It is natural for kids as well as adults to avoid tasks that they are not familiar with especially those that threaten their comfort zone. The fact is the unknown causes anxiety. The possible failures due to unfamiliarity leading to natural avoidance. <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-779" src="http://fun2learn.vornix.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Hiding.png" alt="" width="299" height="168" /><br/> <a href="https://libreshot.com/woman-playing-hide-and-seek/">Image Source</a> These people require lots of encouragement and they need to learn how to take calculated risks whenever they can leading to discovery of meaningful learning even in their failures. <img class="alignnone size-medium" src="http://fun2learn.vornix.blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Risk-Taker.png" width="259" height="194" /><br/> <a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%22Balancing_on_the_Brink.%22_Eagle_Peak_summit,_Chugach_Mountains,_Alaska_(5434541912).jpg">Image Source</a> They have to learn that failures are great opportunities for rich learning experience. Through the development of a growth mindset, these people can move out of their avoidance and have the courage to attempt what they have never done before. <b>In conclusion</b> The roots of avoidance are fear and guilt. By knowing the causes of the avoidance, we can provide possible solutions to remove the possible fear or guilt leading to the natural removal of avoidance. It is easy to think of what can be done but what we plan may not always work. Seeking advice or professional help can provide better alternatives when we are not able to find an effective intervention. <center><img class="aligncenter size-medium" src="https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmfN1mpYXfyNwjEc2DCxE98x1p79Pvt7MJ8XW2p8s8qNis/Steemit%20banner.png" width="625" height="253" /></center><br/> <center><img class="aligncenter size-medium" src="https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaNFFNuQe7VLffQJTqYPM5NK9Hj6wmx9yTAYtgXJ9KPXs/ADSactly-Logo-1.43.png" width="625" height="442" /></center><br/> Disclaimer: This is my personal reflection and I am not in any position to instruct anyone what they should do.
