Checking Out SingularityNET
If it weren’t for bitcoin and blockchain, artificial intelligence would likely be the hottest topic in tech right now.

Today, artificial intelligence is a $200 billion industry. It’s expected to grow to over $3 trillion by 2025. And by some accounts it might take all our jobs. Others see a new utopia. I’m guessing it will be somewhere in between.

With that in mind I had to out [SingularityNET]( https://singularitynet.io/) a crypto that aims to be the first decentralized AI marketplace.

SingularityNET’s three long-term goals are to be the hub of open AI technology, accelerate the development of open AI, and to promote projects and technologies that are agreed to be broadly beneficial.

A decentralized marketplace will allow companies, organizations, and developers to buy and sell AI at scale. It will make AI easier to find and easier to use.

The company behind SingularityNET is Hanson Robotics, the creator of Sophia the robot (see picture below).

SingularityNET is led by Chief Scientist and CEO Dr. Ben Goertzel. He’s the Chief Scientist at Hanson too. You can read about his grand vision [here](https://techcrunch.com/2017/12/22/singularitynets-ben-goertzel-has-a-grand-vision-for-the-future-of-ai/).

How it works is SingularityNET is a protocol and a structure, implemented in smart contracts to create a Decentralized Self-Organizing Cooperative of AI. The first iteration is build on Ethereum. And the nodes, called Agents, connect will both the blockchain and other AI Agents.

SingularityNET had its token sale in December and raised $36 million in 20 seconds. Overall, it sold 500 million of the total 1 billion AGI tokens. AGI stands for artificial general intelligence.

The AGI token is a utility token with the core purpose being used to buy and sell AI transactions carried out by AI software wrapped in SingularityNET Agents. So it’s used to consume AI.

Based on the roadmap SingularityNET will be beta testing the protocol over the first half of 2018 and launching in the second half, although I found no firm dates.

This is definitely one to watch. I’m not sure when or where the tokens will get listed. I don’t even see them on EtherDelta.

But this project has a great team and idea… and it’s AI. And according to the website they’ll be launching with over 30 partners. Keep your eye on SingularityNET.
