Decentralizing Energy, Power Ledger (POWR) Part 2
Yesterday I starting writing about [Power Ledger](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@g-dubs/decentralizing-energy-power-ledger-powr), a decentralized , trustless energy trading platform.

That article gave a general overview and vision of the project. Today I look at some of the projects Power Ledger has worked on already.

The primary application of Power Ledger, and one they have available already is P2P trading. That enables the frictionless buy and selling of energy. You can also choose a clean energy source, trade with neighbors, and sell excess power.

Power Ledger’s first [project]( https://bravenewcoin.com/news/power-ledger-trials-blockchain-based-energy-grid-and-market-near-perth/) using this platform was in Busselton, Australia, which is south of Perth. It involved 10 households in the National Lifestyle Village. The results showed the households could save [$AUD600](https://microgridknowledge.com/blockchain-energy-trading-australia/) a year on electricity.

Another [project]( https://www.vector.co.nz/articles/peer-to-peer-energy-trading-to-be-trialled-in-nz) followed soon thereafter, this one in Auckland, New Zealand. Power Ledger partnered with energy company Vector to use the Power Ledger platform at 500 sites. This is an ongoing project.

Then there’s this recent [project]( https://onestepoffthegrid.com.au/peer-peer-solar-trading-kicks-off-wa-housing-development/) in Western Australian at the White Gum Valley Development. What’s interesting is that this residential project completely bypasses the tradition grid.

That’s likely waking up the energy retailers. And in fact Power Ledger recently started working with Australia’s [Origin Energy]( https://www.coindesk.com/australian-energy-giant-partners-with-blockchain-startup-to-test-energy-trade/) for energy trading and other applications as well.

Being more than just a concept and having projects using the technology is another check mark for Power Ledger. I continue to like what I see.

What do you think of Power Ledger?
