The BRO Phenomenon
Almost a month ago I wrote a post about [alternative passive investments for HIVE](https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@gadrian/some-alternative-options-to-earn-interest-for-hive).

I thought it was a good time for me to check how [returns](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-return-on-investment-roi) for projects and products that are related to [HIVE](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-usdhive) in one way or another (mainly from my list I compiled then) were doing.

As more and more people become fascinated by the [defi](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-decentralized-finance-defi) component of [Splinterlands](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-splinterglossary) (for good reason), one project may fly under the radar: @BROFund.

I included it in my post from a month ago, but even then I escaped one important aspect of it, of which Raymond reminded me in a comment:

> Don't forget that we're the only token that hasn't lost to hive since the crash. In fact, we've moved from 4 Hive to now 7 Hive since Hive lost its value
>
> BROFund

And, after seeing Raymond's comment from back then, I had to go check the [price](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-price) of BRO during the past 30 days. Here it is:

![image.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmUatd8AtTgZieZZiu9FJAMEWWejdik6hRgJzBT7rK7Fyi/image.png)

Comparing the increase in the price of BRO over the last 30 days (the lows, to avoid anomalies introduced by huge wicks), it's a 67.82% rise, from 4.91 to 8.24 HIVE.

The increase is in HIVE, not in USD, and HIVE has been on a downtrend recently.

But when most Hive-Engine [tokens](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-token) are taking a beating, to be decoupled and forge your own path is rare. Even [SPS](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-splintershards-sps) and [DEC](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-dark-energy-crystal-dec) from Splinterlands struggle to overcome [market](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-market) conditions.

Although I don't directly [buy](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-buy) BRO because my goals still need a lot of focus until the year-end, I do have a sizeable delegation (for my holdings) going to the project, for which I receive BRO in return, daily. And BRO pays HIVE [dividends](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-dividend) weekly, as I mentioned in my post from last month, and these small returns in HIVE add up toward my [HIVE Power](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-hive-power-hp) goal.

Now, is BRO better than something like SPS-SWAP.HIVE, which pays 76.62% [APR](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-annual-percentage-return-apr) currently?

I don't think so, even though its price increased by 67% in HIVE in the last month. It's just... different. For a long-term hold, I really like BRO. It doesn't have the [liquidity](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-liquidity) Splinterlands tokens have, so I'm not sure what are the options if someone wants to [sell](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-sell) a high quantity of BRO. But I believe it's a solid project, and apparently, the market agrees.
